Afraid to buy oil filters now...

Go OEM. Oh wait, OEM Honda is a fancy Fram unless springing for NOS A02's. So, a Honda-badged OCOD or a Tearolator? At least the Cruze uses rebranded Hengst cartridges. Not a single problem reported with those so far...

I would stay a way from Purolator until they get their act together. About the Wix XP, the Honda Genuine oil filters are rated at 67% at 20 microns yet their engines last "forever", if you are not comfortable using them then return them. The Fram Ultra is an Excellent filter, use one with confidence. One you tube video of one failure isn't enough evidence to condemn the whole Ultra line of filters. This is why I inspect and shake each filter before I buy it to make sure nothing is lose in there.

One Fram Ultra defect is by far the smallest amount affected I have seen. As long as you shake it before you install it your fine. The Ultra media is rock solid. I have never seen a Ultra media tear.

If you are worried that much pick something with wire mesh backed media. It wont tear as its fully supported.

I use the oem toyo roki on my subaru.
Its nice not having a filter that crushes like a pop can.

Of course since the filter is on top of the engine I don't usually need tools anyway.

I believe that is Purolator too.

IIRC, it is just a classic with a different bypass and the Chrysler name. I have one on my Jeep that I am going to cut open when my 5000 miles is up.

Give M1 filters a try. They can be bought at decent prices with the AAP promo codes as well.

The Fram Ultra seems to win out in my book now when looking at all factors. Performance, construction, price and availability. And as already mentioned, we've seen only one instance of a quality issue, and that one was sketchy.

I may give it a try. I was at Wally World looking at them and they seem well made. You can actually look at the media if you look at one of their cartridge filters. Most of the boxes on the shelf were sealed. However there were enough of them opened to have a look at several of them.

I may not like that the issue arose in the first place. I may not like how Purolator is handling it. I am confident, however, that it will be handled and sometime down the road here, we will find the problem disappeared.

That being said, I'm not running out to buy the Bosch Premium (which I do like), particularly since I have a handful of free Hastings filters. It's kind of ironic. I was wanting more choice available for filters around here. When we got more choice, this quality control issue appears.

Olas: Mahle doesn't even specify a filter for my G, but they do for other Infiniti models; I'm sure they would work if I could find such a thing here!

I'm hoping that down the road we will see cut open Purolator filters with tighter pleat spacing near the seam, and pleats that are potted into the end caps with a less severe "V" shape. That would be indication that they are fixing this issue.

Yep, I would tend to agree with that. I guess we'll see down the road. Maybe if Walmart Canada puts the Bosch Premiums on clearance with Fram coming back, maybe I'll buy one and cut it open. With my luck, it'll be perfect, I'll have wasted a good filter, and I'll go back to buy more and they'll be all out.

I will use Napa Silver until we have reports of a fix from Purolator. I can get the Silver cheaper with my AAA discount, so I may make a permanent change to the Napa Silver anyway. I try not to go to Walmart unless it is absolutely necessary. Napa is much closer to my house than Walmart and Advance seems to have stopped offering oil change deals with the Puro Classic.

I put a Napa Silver on my mother in law's Ford a few months back and was very impressed with the build quality, from what I could see. Made by Wix, made in the USA, good quality for my 3K OCI, it costs less than $3.00 and Napa is just down the street from my house. That is a no brainer for me. I have an oil change for my truck coming up next weekend and am looking forward to trying out the Napa Silver.

they used to be Purolator, but they switched over to Wix in the last year or 2.

My brother has a Similar Challenger(2013 R/T Blacktop). the Mopar filter wasn't carried @ his local wally world(but i've seen the it in wally's around here), so we did some cross checking, and it crosses to a Motorcraft FL-820s (which he already had several on hand for his Mustangs)

and yes, the Motorcraft filters ARE made by Purolator, but I don't recall seeing /reading about tears in them... (though i could be wrong)

I was under the impression that the Canadian Mopar filters were made by WIX while the US Mopars are Purolator.
