They are brushed. I don't use them enough to matter. I assume HD pushes them out at this price in order to hook people into their rigid system. The two batteries are worth the $99. I wasn't going to ever buy 15 other tools, and if they honor the warranty even better.

If I was going to use it every day I would spend the money on a brushless drill.

If you register them they have a lifetime warranty for the original owner - including the batteries.

Cant beat that for the price. Hard to tell with the photo, but the chuck appears to be similar to Milwaukee M18 Fuel/ Ryobi One+.

I owned cheap B&D cordless tools a couple decades ago while redoing a house, and the batteries all failed just out of warranty. I swore off cordless. Finally I needed an impact drill to set some concrete screws so I called my buddy that has built a couple houses. He told me he has rigid and they have worked well for him for a long time.

When you get them you create an account online and registered the serial numbers. There supposedly warrantied for life for homeowner / personal use - including the batteries and charger.
 
The Hercules is going up against supposed top tier drills, the drill driver and hammer drill are identical specs only without the rattle function. If you need to drill anything in concrete larger than 5/16 don't throw your money away on a rattler but an SDS series drill.
 
OP, it’s the holidays and deals are to be had. Here is a Milwaukee M12 Fuel drill with battery, charger, and case for $100. This one is a compact that beats out most companies’ full size 18+ volt offerings. It even has a hammer drill function that works very well for drilling into concrete. I have this drill and I no longer grab my 18 volt drills. By stepping into one of the big brands, you’ll be future proofing yourself for battery comparability.

What is the use case and do you see yourself adding more tools? Buying cheap tools up front is more expensive down the road. Better to invest in a good tool system with good batteries that can be used across multiple tools. Then for the second and third tools you buy only the tool.

I think today only they're doing the Bauer deal of buy a batt+charger and get a free tool. The stuff is affordable and seems to work. For OP's budget, I'd give it a whirl

I fit a 1/2" chuck to all my 2407s. Great for large shank c-sinks etc. If you search, 1/2" chucks in 3/8-24 are out there.

The newer 1/2" M18 drills growl like a deep gear drive and are also pretty scary now. With larger cutting tools I need the side handle because I can't control it if it grabs.

That said, M18 is way out of OP's target budget.
 
I'd figure out if you want any other tools.

ryobi has hundreds.. and the HP line is pretty good.. even against dewalt and such.. esp. for a homeowner.

Drill today, Mini shop vac tomorrow, misting fan next summer?

Woot has DeWalt stuff at low prices almost constantly.
If full price has to be paid - I'd go Skil.
 
I have a good collection of Hitachi and Metabo cordless tools that have been flawless and didn't cost an arm or leg. My SIL has a good collection of Ryobi tools that have been beat on and keep coming back for more abuse. They live in tool bags filled with saw, sander, and drywall dust. It's disgusting how she treats them but they just keep on working. Based on witnessing that kind of neglect I'd have to recommend Ryobi as a good decent lower priced tool line for home use (and maybe more). Plus they're readily available and batteries tend to be on the cheaper side and have decent life.
