Bought a DieHard Gold battery (47-H5) from Advance Auto Parts and installed it on Sunday. Drove about 40 miles today. Popped the hood to check on something unrelated and notice wet stuff by battery. Wipe it up with paper towel, towel totally disintegrates. Battery acid everywhere. Wiped it off radiator hose, hopefully thats okay. It even began to disfigure electrical connectors that were below and nearby it. We’re talking turning plastic into goo. Went to exchange battery and the one the guy brought out had droplets of “water” on the sides. He finally found a dry one that was still labeled DieHard gold but looked like different manufacturer or design.
Faulty one looked like this:
The one that I got for a replacement looked just like this (imagine this battery in DieHard livery):
Anyone know who made these? Is top Clarios? Original was date coded 5/25, exchange was 12/24 (I had to put it on a 10 amp charger for 3 hours before I installed it). I cant begin to tell you how amazing the effect on electrical connectors was, really caused some damage. So far though nothing has caused any drivability concern. I wrote them an email, hopefully the car does okay. Its my sister’s 2012 Cruze 1.4 turbo with 150k. Its amazing it’s still on the road. I’ve had to really stay vigilant about care/inspection its whole life.
