Acura TLX discontinued

I did! Original engine and transmission, untouched.

Yep, are you familiar with the million mile Ford van?

That's why I mentioned the GS version, this was more performance-geared, correct? With a bit more power? Perhaps not a direct M-car competitor though.

It actually wasn't that bad. I traded the car when it needed a driveshaft (the CV joints they use instead of u-joints aren't replaceable) and immediately regretted that decision. It was the best driving vehicle I ever owned, with the best seats. You always looked forward to driving it. It certainly wasn't just "gas/brakes/tires", but it wasn't shockingly expensive to own or anything. The odd suspension part, the odd sensor...etc. Cooling system, amusingly, isn't an issue on this engine, lol.

Yes, the more pedestrian M62 is probably the more "appropriate" comparison, but since were talking V8's in general, and I had experience with the S62 and knew it didn't suffer from most of the same issues, I thought it warranted mentioning.
The thing with E39 was that it absolutely changed everything in how manufacturers approach suspension development. Everyone tried to copy E39 including every single Japanese manufacturer.
It was a sport sedan benchmark and still is.

Come on man I'm eating have you no shame ?!?

And the legend goes that Herr Hanenberger who worked heavily on Holden's suspension which became the Chevy SS' suspension (the rear at least), then Hyundai/Kia with the Stinger and the small Genesis (...Genesises ? Genesii ?) did also work on the m5 e39, although legends might be a bit mixed between one German engineer and BMW going mandatorily together.

It wasn't M5, it was E39 generally. It does not matter which one, 520i, 525d, or M5.

Hyundai/KIA poached him but he was not lead when E39 was developed, which was end of 80's, beginning of 90's.
GM tried literally to copy suspension, especially the rear suspension, where the key was. But there was much more to it, the stiffness of bushings etc. Though IMO, Pontiac G8 etc. were missed opportunities.
The same goes with Genesis. That G70 was a well-balanced vehicle. Too bad engines are junk. Then they decided to drop the ball, same like Lexus did, Infiniti, Acura. One and done.

750k is no doubt impressive. Did you ask the driver if it was ever rebuilt?

We all know about the 1 million mile Tundra (2UZ). But Here's a good read on a 1 million mile LS400 if you haven't come across it before.

Performance S62 in the E39 M5 isn't apples to apples to a generic V8 in the LS400 / LS430. And as you probably know owning one - any E39 M5 these days is likely maintained with an open checkbook. BMW M62 would be more appropriate comparison to Lexus UZ and Mercedes M113 V8s. (Let's face it, with N62 it only got worse). The timing chain issues alone with M62 are enough to make it dead last. Unfortunate that BMW made similar mistake over a decade later with the timing chain guides in the N20.

There are several Ford Modular & GM LSx engines with 500,000 plus in work vans & trucks, The unsung hero's that keep the US going!

A ragged out, Overloaded service bed truck with 500,000 in a urban setting is far more impressive than a pampered million mile LS400 in my opinion.

One of my fleet accounts (Electrician) has a 2008 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L/6L90E, Service bed & ladder rack, Way over GVW, And tows a scissor lift when changing sites......Has a little over 600,000 & finally got retired because the body/interior was falling apart. The engine got valve springs, rockers, & pushrods once because a broken valve spring, Gaskets here & there.....Other than that it's still factory including the head gaskets.
