Acura comes thru for sibling

My brother/sis in law have let their 2012 MDX with 99k burn so much oil over 3-4k they end up adding 3+ quarts to get back to level over 2-3 times where engine was making noises and oil light flashing. Finally Acura came around acknowledging a defect and is performing a consumption test over 1000 miles on it. Fortunately it burns quart every 600-800 milles so engine should get repaired, replaced whatever.

They are good on maintenance intervals but just not checking oil levels between. My brother is elated as this is a paid for vehicle in excellent condition besides that engine which is likely damaged goods.

I hope they didn't fess up to the dealer about letting it get so low that there were funny noises with the light, that might hurt them in the long run...

How did you get them to pay for an engine well past the warranty period?

I wouldn't say they have come through until they replace the engine.

I've seen cases where they offer to pay for some of the bill, but don't cover the whole thing.

If they come through that would be very good, but until everything is done, I would not celebrate just yet.

Yeah, until things are done and car is out the door anything can change unfortunately.

The biggest concern to brother is engine drinking motor oil.

Wow-that's a nice gesture on Honda's part! I would have to call this the ANTI-FCA way of handling customers' oil burning issues!

Honda/Acura has been slow dealing with the lemon 3.7L V6 issues.
