Oh! Is "dry oil" a solid?

Agree ...

OP, I forgot to say thank you for the C&P, so Thank you for the C&P

What are the date codes on these filters? (should be inked on the top of the can)

I've used that filter before with no issues. You just got a bad one luckily you caught it in time and have no problem. Maybe champ labs making Delco's.

1) Pressure x area equals force … not much area to share the force at a given differential
2) Those dimples in the media look like Puro … were they ever a supplier?
3) Why is it when folks select to follow OEM engineers guidelines they are a fan boy …
4) These are PF63's off my 5.3L engines … seem fine to me

PF63's are good sized filters... here is one next to my former XG10575 which was actually an oversized filter in my former 5.3L ... I will go back to XG's when they are to spec and I'm sure a couple cut opens will appear while I'm using ACD/Baldwin/RP stash ...

Those pleats would have torn on any non-backed non-synthetic media filter-might be interesting to give Champ Labs a call or email on that one, that's a definite total FAIL!

I also had no issues to report.. until I opened the filters. And be aware that I have two PF1237 filters with tears. Although the one pictured is the worst of the two. Maybe with enough demand I'll post that one too.

Both of them?

That is correct.

This, exactly. There is absolutely no reason for filter failure (and tears are failures) when a filter is used in an expected application with ordinary viscosities. Oil gets thick when cold? We know that. If a filter is designed for only tropical countries, sell them there only. Then again, the tropical countries might use monogrades or 20w-50, so we shouldn't dump shoddy filters with weak media on them, either.

Worst thing is, like Purolator's well known problems, these filters are made here in the USA, by a reputable major corporation, by a company that knows how to build a decent filter (Champion Labs). There's really no excuse for them, at all. I mentioned calling/emailing Champ on these because hopefully they would show some interest in preventing screwups on the line in the future. Unlike Mann & Hummel!

Pulled this PF63E off the Tahoe today … 6k miles … all in good shape …

My AC's were in great shape at 6K too, except for the cold start rattles.
I'll never buy another one, just because of the three seconds clatter.

What a POS filter. Once of the worst pleat spacings I have seen. No doubt it tore. They need to make filter cans out of clear/transparent material. I bet the manufacturers produce tight even pleating then... like on their cartridge filters.
