hello all,

my wife called me when she was leaving work. she told me that the maint minder was flashing "check fuel cap". I removed the fuel cap and reinserted...no luck. Looked on google found some articles but no help

any advice would be very helpful....

I've turned to the one website that i can truly count on! BTOG

thank you

BD

I would if you can find a emissions machine like we have here in PA to test the fuel cap. I was able to do this and found my fuel cap on my 11' Focus was bad. Only 62k on mine. Could be the gas also as after this my check engine light came on as I was eased to work; when I started my car to leave work the check engine light was out. Never came back

I did not even think about that. I've been racking my brain.....something so easy and i feel like an [censored]...going to get gas cap
thanks NMB and car51

My Pilot flashed the gas cap message a few months after we bought it. It had been filled up a few days back so I just re-tightened the cap and the message never came back. It was a rainy and very windy night so IDK if that somehow triggered the message.

Is a new gas cap covered under the emissions warranty since your car's only 3 yrs old? Just wondering.

"Check gas cap" warnings can be triggered by other things too. Somehow a vacuum line going to the purge valve on my truck came loose from a connector, triggering the "check fuel cap" light to come on, but no CEL. Thinking it had to be the cap, I replaced it. Didn't work. Popped the hood and saw the loose vacuum line within seconds (connection is next to the engine dipstick). Plugged it back up, and the light turned off the next time I started the truck.

replacing the cap may not clear the message.

Use a code reader to clear the message after replacing the cap to see if it comes back.

I had a 2001 Buick LeSabre that gave a gas cap warning a few miles after a fill up. Changing cap didn't help. Buick/GM told dealer to do a software update and problem went away.
