We routinely see the response/comment along the lines of "don't you think the automakers know exactly what to recommend after all their bazillions of dollars spent on R&D/research.... etc... etc.. "

We knew these engines were trashing oil when the first few UOAs came in. It's no surprise to me the OLM needs to be modified.

My neighbor just traded her Acadia in for a Sienna. She said that SUV was the worst car she ever owned... was at the dealer more often than she cares to remember.

Don't underestimate the power of the marketing department in setting maintenance intervals in order to have their vehicles perceived as cheap to maintain. I suspect the engineers are fully aware of the issues. Marketing trumps science and engineering almost every time, with any given product, in my experience.
