has anyone used this AC cleaner to purge their vehicles AC evaporator thru the drain tube, i see that these cleaners from HOMEDEPOT or LOWES are primarily for usage on AC units on a home, not quite sure if this would be a application for auto ac evaporator cleaning, although i really like the price compared to the strictly automotive versions anybody used this stuff on the vehicles AC?

why do you need to clean it? dont most cars have an air filter that keeps it from getting dirty?

Most not all. A lot of old cars don't have filter.

Coil cleaner should work good in a car also.
I don't think the cleaner knows where they are used.

Just used some on a family Volvo yesterday. The Home Depot stuff seems effective. Ive watched professionals use similar, seeing the high side pressure drop 10psi after doing it on the outside coil

I haven't used it yet, but I just got the 2-can Toyota "Servicerite" kit for my 2001 Silverado.
Here's the ingredients list for the bigger can with the foaming cleaner:

Butane CAS 106-97-8
Butoxyethanol CAS 111-76-2
1-Dodecanol
Sulfate
Sodium Salt CAS 151-21-3
Propane CAS 74-98-6

I just used some Frost King AC Coil cleaner on my home AC. But it says on evaporators it is self rinsing due to the moisture that accumulates. So it them washed out and cleans the whole way. Lemony scent.

one of my main concerns with some over the counter foam cleaners such as A/C Safe and Frost King is that they are meant for outdoor usage whereas using it for my trucks AC evaporator may produce un healthy, noxious fumes that i and my family could breath in, not to say that the strictly automotive versions could do the same. there is a brand DWD2 that sells non-toxic AC cleaners but at 5 times the cost as a HOMEDEPOT LOWES cleaner. Nu Calgon and WEB(Lowes) brand cleaners are supposely safe for indoor/outdoor use and wont effect air qaulity with toxic fumes, maybe

im looking into the SUBURU kit SOA868V9315 kit which is exactly the same as the Toyota kit at $15.69 local dealership. i might go with it

they also make industrial lysol type stuff.
you spray in the air intake for that (put it on recirculate)
i tried those LYSOL in the cowl intakes, i think i need to take another step and get the evaporator to really rid the mildewy smell, LYSOL does a decent job tho

The Frost King I used (ACF19) says it's a Low VOC Formula and is designed to use on evaporators as it is self rinsing with the condensate. It does say to not spray in eyes or inhale the foam.

i stopped by ACE hardware they had Frost King for $8, i decided to go pickup up the SUBURU AC kit SOA868V9315 at a local SUBURU dealer for about $16 its the same kit as TOYOTA sells for 1/2 the cost, has evaporator foam and a small can for pumping into the intake cowl vents with a clear hose so you can inject it up the AC drain hose then into the evaporator, next summer i'll go with either the A/C Safe or FROST KING and use the supplied hose on them i have with this kit. i feel a little better using the Toyota recommended kit thats specific for auto as opposed to a home unit type for now, i'll research the Frost king,A/C Safe,WEB brands for next summer,

Hey jrvn! The link you originally posted from Home Depot is the same foaming cleaner I used on my "a-coil" or evaporator inside my furnace, part of my central a/c. It does not have any toxic chemicals that I know of, is self cleaning as the water/condensation washes it away down into the pan and out the drain line. I've used it for a couple of years and I'd say it's probably the same stuff as what you bought from the dealer.

I don't blame you for getting the automotive version, but I bet if you did look up the MSDS sheet the ingredients would be the same. My point is, it does clean the evap fins, I even watched the foam sliding down the fins leaving them clean behind! The smell? Lemon, that only lasts a couple of hours then perfectly clear, no scent air! love that stuff! And because it cleans the fins, the a/c works more efficiently, colder air!

I think the kit you bought will really scrub ANYTHING off the evap in your car.

Had to let you know that someone did use the stuff you posted originally.. and I believe it's safe.. (y)

I wish you had started this thread 2 weeks ago, before I ordered the Toyota version!

Does the Subaru hose have the cone-shaped end as pictured in the video? Toyota's kit now has a smaller nozzle and the cans have green labels.

just used the SUBURU cleaning kit today, verdict on my results is MEHHH not so great but just OK, if you could get that special hose with the kit somewhere seperately and buy a can of AC Safe or another brand from HOME depot or LOWES for $5 with that hose I'd say winner, the scent spray didnt by the end of today really. I'll keep my clear vinyl hose for next summer and use AC SAFE cleaner is all you'd really need IMO.
