AC Delco e cores only at my Walmart.......

The last two AC Delcos I bought were the old fashioned heavy ones. No plastic on the inside. I wonder if they were old stock? If I were to aquire any more Delcos for my car, would they be the e-cores,or are the ones for my car only made in the good old way?

Speaking of oil filters, which aftermarket are probably the best hands-down? After seeing those plastic innards of the e-cores,I`ll probably just order a case of Nissan oem`s from Courtesy Parts. I can get a case of 10,including tax and shipping, for a lil over $6 a pop.

Nothing wrong with Ecores in 99% of applications. Just don't slap one on a crate engine with the bypass blocked off.... use the search feature to see what I mean

The Ecore is probably the most scrutinized automotive filter in history. Well ok maybe Fram but that is due to failures. The manufacturer has done a lot of testing and consumer has done a lot of visual inspections. All anyone ever comes up with is that they don't like the way they look on the inside. It is actually a clever design from the simple ADBV/bypass to the nylon cage. Champ, ST, STP, and AC are probably just the start. I won't be surprised if Champion gets a lot more business out of this design. I've used them numerous times and can't find anything bad to say about them. Eliminated occasional start up rattle on one car that was using old AC Delco and the media looks as good as any other reasonably priced filter.

The question in my mind is why is Champ selling so many conventional filters, AC PF1127, ST 3593A, STP 3950, etc.? They all have the cheap, junky dome end bypass.

If Delco could save 5 cents per filter, of course they'd allow Champ to the change to the filters to the e-core design.

And that's great. The problem is, I personally don't want anything of the e-core design on MY vehicles. It is called 'personal choice".

I found this statement on the box of Mobil 1 oil filters interesting.

"Steel Center Tube - provides added internal strength"

Because "cheap, junky dome end bypass" valves rule the world.

I always believed that the old AC Duraguard oil filters were unsurpassed, if not the best available, for their GM engine applications - until I got one of the new ones with the little, thin sheet metal end when they first started cheapening them a few years ago. I didn't like the way it looked or the feel of it going on. I've changed over to WIX/ NAPA Gold and would consider Pure 1 also. I have a case of the old Champion made AC PF 58s with the heavy stamped metal end that I'm finishing on my cars that were designed for that type, but I'll not be using the replacement pf61s when those run out. I replaced my first oil filter almost 50 years ago, so I guess I qualify as a curmudgeon. Curmudgeon or not, I know what I like and I imagine there are a lot of guys like me.

Only the dreaded Fram and two e core choices are available for my GM product.

Guess I have to just keep buying the Purolators at Advanced Auto.

Yeah that's the only AC Delcos I see at Auto Zone and Oreillys any more.

bah more ecores for me!!!

proven filter, cheap, workes better than old design.

the plastic you people are [censored] about is 3 times as strong as frams steel ribcage.

the filters have upgraded media vs the old style.

+1. GM's been trying to save themselves right out of business for years and nearly got it done.

I use them too, but not because I like GM.

(They owe me $24,000 for selling me a misassembled Blazer.)

Champion Labs has a good reputation.

Well now I don't feel so bad about the $1500 they own me for the pot metal transmission sun shell that they knew was defective on my Blazer. But I haven't added up the money they owe me for the bailout yet.
