About to try Walmart Synthetic

It drives me nuts when I see a bunch of people buying Ol Roy. For a dollar or two more you can get a better dog food from purina or pedigree. A Big Mac probably has more nutritional value that Ol roy.

For a cheap A3 oil, I suppose it is OK... for a top-notch formulation, you can do much better elsewhere, IMHO.

Pedigree is dirt cheap at Target and often on sale. Our pedigreed Pyrenees did well on it, although he prefered table food, which I always gave him. Why would any dog prefer steak to dog food? I am a sucker.
Anyway, QS Q-syn is only 18.00/5qts at Walmart and is more likely to be a consistent product. Also, check around. Target, for example, often offers special pricing on oil. I have in the last couple of years stocked up on M1 for as little as 2.79/qt. Target also clearanced out Maxlife for between .44 and .90/qt, great deal for the lawnmowers. Target currently offers only a limited oil selection, though, and no filters. Oil and no oil filters?

I doubt it. I think Big Macs are made from recycled Ol Roy.

But they shure taste good.

I wouldn't buy it for a Saab or Audi/VW turbos or some Toyota models. Also, in severe conditions I would change it every 4 months or 3000 miles.

Oh man did I open a can of worms with the dog food reference ?

BTW .... my mutt loves it. Craves it like a junkie does crack.

Back on topic Walmart syn oil is a great oil , not just an ok oil a great oil. It is after all API rated .

Why? It's an A3 oil. It'd be perfect for a SAAB.

When mobil 1 first came out I did 10,000 mi oci with a filter change at 5000. Engine was still running perfect at 165,000 when i sold the car. engine still only used about a 1/2 qt per interval when old. Used the old hastings cotton wad depth filters. Kept the oil clean the whole time.

Seriously, its because there is NO nutrients in it. It's all filler. Your dog craves it because he need vitamins/minerals/ect, a vast majority of it is being excreted, while very little is being absorbed.
I will send you the whole 2 extra dollars it costs to buy the poor feller a real bag of decent food.

I've been alternating Mobil 1 and SuperTech Synthetic for the last few oil changes on my Pontiac Vibe. Nothing miraculous nor horrible has happened while using the Walmart stuff, other than it was a lot cheaper than other synthetics. I'm not sure I would buy it for ~$14 a jug, as PP is only $4 more, but I built up a little stash of it when it was around $10.50. As for extended drains, I definately wouldn't run it out too far (6K/6mths?) without doing a used oil analysis to see how it's holding up with your particular vehicle/situation. However, once you start throwing in the cost of a used oil analysis w/the SuperTech, you have to ask yourself if you're really saving any money at that point. Might be better to buy a cheaper filter (Wix), spend a little more on Pennzoil Platinum and forgoe the used oil analysis.

So if one individual was stuck on 3,000-5,000 oci with synthetic would SuperTech Synthetic keep the engine as clean/happy as Amsoil 5w30 or GC? - Over the period of 100,000 miles.

Probably any SM rated oil would be fine.

Well, if you've got a 100K mile warranty w/required 3-5K OCI's, I don't think it matters what oil (synthetic-blend-dino) you use...you'll most likely sell/trade the vehicle before the warranty expires. $.59 Chevron or Shell will satisfy the warranty requirements just as well as $8 boutique oils will.

But hey, who am I to say that? I plead guilty to using M1 & Super Tech Synthetic on 3K OCI's (warranty)...and that's pretty bad considering I have a moderate stash of dino and blended oils.

Ditto... Ill send a few $'s as well. Very little nutritional value.

I run the Supertech Conventional in my 176k mile 305 chevy. Seems to work pretty good. Once I finish up the new 350 Ill break it in on Rotella and then maybe switch to Havoline.

This dog thing is getting wayy out of wack.

Getting back to SuperTECH Synthetic.

Is there anyone out there that has done a used oil analysis on SuperTECH synthetic so we all can get a legit answer if this A3 oil is worthwhile for $14 per 5 quart?
