It is General and Off Topic...

I like Aaron Rogers and Green Bay, but a guy that is massively over payed to chuck a football around isn't really a "hero". The guys crippled in VA Hospitals are "heroes"...

And I still have no idea who this guy is. Am I supposed to know?

Did I read that post correctly? A man that runs on grass with a ball is hero? Are my two girls in the same category? Does he suck at reading and writes on walls too? Or am I confusing the meaning of hero? I always thought it was the guy bombing children. ..nope sorry thats democracy.

I'm sorry but priorities have been jumbled so far out of line.

Yes, AGREED, as well as all of the LEOs and fire fighters who put their lives and limbs on the line EVERY day.

After looking around to satisfy my curiosity, it appears he's a football player.

If he selflessly puts himself in harms way to save others from injury or death, without being compensated in any way to do so, then I'll agree he would be a hero.

Who are you talking about then, because even the people that others have mentioned (Military, LEO, FD, NG, etc) are all paid for putting their bodies into dangerous situations also.

It could even be argued that some members of these groups can go their entire careers without ever seeing a dangerous situation up close and personal.

At least with football players, the vast majority of them are being beat up, bruised, and injured every single week.

Just because you don't see their job as being worthy doesn't mean you're even remotely close to being correct.

BC.

But they are doing it for massively more money, aren't being shot at, and the purpose is for pure entertainment. That does not a hero make.

It would be like saying Jackie Chan is a hero because he's an actor that does his own stunts and subsequently gets paid to get hurt to entertain others.

I said exactly what I meant.

An example: I'm talking about the guy walking down the road, a car crashes and catches on fire, and he without concern for his own welfare, puts himself in harms way to save the passengers in the car. THAT is a hero.

Playing a game for large sums of money is great for those that can do so, but that doesn't make him or anyone else in that position a hero for doing so.

I'm paid well to work on potentially deadly racing machines. The sole purpose of which is to entertain the fans that attend the races, and those that watch on TV. People have been seriously hurt or killed just being in the vicinity of these machines. I feel fortunate to be able to do so, but I also know the risks. I'm certainly not a hero for doing so.
