In to-days world of electronics and such,,,what is, in youralls opinion , note opinion-------- What is a tuneup anyway? What do you get at say the dealership or your neighborhood tuneup shop and why did they do what they did???

It depends upon the mileage, but yes all of the above. And accept your $$, don't forget that!!

At the manufactures recomended miles/time the following.
Spark plugs and ign wires, air cleaner, MAF cleaning, check FA mixture, check sensors. I doubt that anyone really does all those tests but, are more than willing to charge for them.

Plugs, wires, dist. Cap, rotor, ignition coil, oil change, fuel filter, air filter. This is what I would call "full tune-up."

Change plugs and wires = minimal tune up.

Since the advent of computer controlled cars, a tuneup is a thing of the past. Points, plugs, adj carb are just a memory.

You fix what is broke or perform PM.

YMMV

To me, with today's cars, a Tune up will include plugs and wires (except COP of course), air filter, fuel system cleaner in the tank, throttle body cleaning, PCV valve, fuel filter if replaceable , oil change and scan for codes. Just spark plugs doesn't constitute a tune up to me.

i think the phrase tune up is out dated. like tuning points or a carb. nothing needs tuning today. But parts still wear out and need to be replaced, like plugs, wires, filters, and those type of things.

Spark plugs?

It's called "replace spark plugs".

Tuneup included a ton of adjustments that can't be changed any more. No more Idle speed, mixture or timing adjustments. Go back even further and a tuneup included points, condenser, etc...

My daughter's '06 Corolla had over 150k miles on it before she took it in for a check up. I will have to ask her what they did. I have been changing the oil on it it since new and I put a set of rotors and pads on it and maybe a few air filters. It is wrong wheel drive econo-box appliance. But its a darn durable one.

Both of the 528e s are overdue for their 120k mile service. They will get a cap, rotor, plugs, cam seals, timing belt, tensioner, all accessory belts, Pressure cap maybe an injector overhaul. Front end work, Yada, Yada, Yada. Parts are reasonable and available. The car has its quirks, but for the most part is very easy to maintain. Compared to all my other cars, they are the easiest to wrench on

Spark plugs, valve adjust (if applicable), serpentine belt, coolant service, review of all maintenance (and catch-up if needed), and a "health-check" of all computer systems via factory scan tool (or equivalent high-end aftermarket tool).
