I supported a computer environment on a shop floor not so long ago. The challenges in that environment top anything in a standard office. I can relate to the amount of dirt, metal shavings, graphite, etc, found in & around anything, including and especially the INSIDE of the computer case.

That looks like saw dust.

Last year some component in my year 2000 model iMac croaked. I had to salvage the hard drive and bought the same model iMac for a few bucks and swapped out the hard drive. I found interesting things in both computers. There was of course dust, but also a few small dead flies and even some rather extensive spider webs.

They should really put replaceable filters on the fan inlets (Would be easy on the late model iMac).

Looks like he could use more RAM...

You do realize they make ram modules with capacities as high as 2gb right? It's probably no higher than a 512mb stick.. But still.

buddy of mine has a warehouse and they bag spices. Took home one machine to work on and when I booted it up it shot spice dust everywhere. smelled like a West Indian store. Vacuuming it out was a pain. It had filters on the front but they were so dirty they looked like a solid front panel, not a filter housing..lol

*twitch* that's gotta be a Compaq of some sort.

Horrid, horrid riser boards! Proprietary cases. And what's the white thing stuck on the outside of the PSU fan?

Compaq refuses to put the PCI slots down on the mobo where they belong. And half the time you don't get an AGP slot.

A pox on the house of Compaq and HP.

Nope..i've been serching for my DELL and have't seen
ANYTHING that high...

Old SDRAM stick (not DDR, ect); probably no bigger than 512meg especially if stock. They make 4gig sticks now too but (of course) they're pricey!

I was gonna say I've seen worse but on closer inspection that thing is truely c o a t e d

What worries me is that the people on the shop floor are breathing that khrap all day long. Computers are replaceable, lungs not so much.

i service a bunch of machines in a truss plant.
that machine was likely cleaned last week.
got a call a while back where their cyber saw was locking up.
they rebooted and the software was corrupted.not the first time the ge-fanuc stuff had ate itself.
pulled the computer which is a module with a touchscreen lcd on the front.
opened it up and it was packed full of sawdust.
caps in the motherboards vrm section had failed and burned the sawdust around them.
after i rebuilt the board and psu i instructed the operator to blow it out at least once a week.
a month later i got a call on the same unit.
it was already a mess again.the filters dont help and the operator is too lazy to take an airhose to it.
he would rather use the comp to surf porn sites.
that time it had so much spyware it wouldnt run .
he was upset after he found i had closed port 80!
another cnc saw they have gets just as bad.they wont spend a dime on maintainence but they sure want these things fixed fast when they blow up.
