Ok. On th 84 Camaro w ~164,000 mi (V6 auto carb'd, runs good FOR THE MOST PART..) i have decided to start "Attacking" the carbon! it runs bttr on 93, likly due o cabron. So, i poured some Berryman B-12 down the cabr throat. Now, his stuff is stronger than MMO, ebcause MMO i poured a few ounces and i didnt die! (While running, then after it shut off too.) .. B-12 killed i down Choke thing almost INSTANTLY!! Im rying to dislodge then burn off a lot of censored in the Carb!

(and yes, i Youtubed my smoke show. Off the MMO down the throat..)

My question is, i noticed some of the B-12 i poured into the carb as accurately as i could wound up UNDER the carb, on top of the engine! I DID pour some down the Choke, which lts in Air...

Is that "normal" (some didnt make it "into" the carb,) or is that telling me its cracked somwheres? It runs.. fairly well since the 93. I only hear minimal efforts to hesitate/"sputter" and it hasnt yet, only wanted to, before going fine.. twice in two hours...

Oil change soon, im sure mine is all sludged or decomposed, from all this cleaning and running? Thinking GC, or more 5W-50 (since who knows what is getting in the oil. I have 10W-40 too.)

You want cheap and effective?

Get the engine good and warm. VERY, VERY carefully dribble water into the carb while revving the engine. Use very small amounts, but get about a quart into the engine.

THAT will get rid of carbon!

Maybe a leak in the gasket between carb & intake manifold? Might explain some of the poor running.

Of course it is possible you just spilled it and didn't notice

Shall I offer up a vido of th enx tim i do this? Camera in one hand, and you can se the B-12 simmering liek a strip of bacon udner the carb?

And the water thign.. im working my way up to i. At least B-12 (which i now have,) Seafoam (which is my favorite,) and MMO (which i have used previouslyand is a good slow one..) Isn WATR that can HYDROLOCK!

Its either I spilled it or it leaked down. The Choke DOES let in "AIR" so mybe i just ran down that hole...
Maybe a "nw carb" is all i need, im tring to clean up this one
It IS running better
My weird VaraJet
idk.

?

Carb issues of some kind is what I`m willing to bet. The oil, keep on doing what you`re doing.........straight 10W40 (my choice would be Valvoline wb).

Any fluid can cause an engine to hydrolock. What happens is, since liquids aren't compressible like air, if there's too much when the piston gets to TDC, something has to bend.

Honestly, if an engine is warm and revved up a bit, it takes a lot of water to hydrolock it. When I did a water decarboning on my Jeep, I took a garden hose, set the nozzle to mist, locked it on, and shot it down the TB while holding it to 2500 - 3000 rpm, and keeping the revs up for 20 - 30 seconds after I stopped spraying.

It idled a hair rough for a few seconds when I let it down, but was fine. I then proceeded to drive the [censored] out of hit for a couple minutes before shutting it down. It definitely helped.

He's right...done carefully, the water decarb will work wonders.

I did it with my Cavalier - a quart of water in a spray bottle sprayed down the intake tube while revving the engine to 3k or so...got some grey steam coming out the back, and some flecks of carbon under the tailpipe.

Engine ran noticeably better afterward.

.. even Seafoam, MMO, or motor oil ? I have been somewhat afraid of water, since water is what you DONT want in an engine, right?

though i must say its intriguing. If i find the rev up thing, which i knwo where it is.. and stand over it with a bottle of purified water.. ?

Do i "have it revved up real hiugh" and put drops in or quick light pour, and keep it revved on a fully warmed engine so it DOESNT die ? How long to keep it revved so it doesnt hydrolock when it sits?

Im intrigued!

I MAY try this!

After you stop adding water, keep it revved for 15 - 20 seconds to clear any remaining water out of the intake, then it should idle fine. Any liquid being added to an engine can hydrolock it, including oil, seafoam, etc. It's just a matter of not adding too much.
