A PAO morning

I can recall when they would take an 8” stove pipe elbow, point it at the oil pan and then place a torch inside the horizontal end pointed towards the turn in the elbow.

My grandpa remembered dates by how many years things happened before or after Ford pickup trucks got cabin heaters.

You are quite welcome :)
I figured out my confusion. GTL is wax derived, but the hydro cracks convert almost all the wax to highly branched isomers that behave differently from regular crystallizable linear n-chain paraffin.

So my concept of “wax” was too simplistic and didn’t capture the sophisticated isomers in GTL that are considered waxes (otherwise PPDs would have no effect).

Also, the isomerization is imperfect so even n-chain paraffin still remains at low levels.

Grade 3 for me. That was a very cold winter. We hit -45°C (-49°F) on February 18th, but the entire month was cold. I walked a few blocks to school.

There was very little snow that winter until the blizzard of March 4th.

It sounds like it was even colder in Brandon.

Rural electrification didn't really take off until after WW2.

A friend told me his dad grew up on a farm prewar. They used to drain the oil out of the tractor, take it inside, and warm it on the wood stove.
Brandon is typically right in the middle of the jet stream with Regina and Winnipeg a few degrees C warmer. A two hour drive south to Minot, ND and the temperature is 10C warmer.

my only youtube video. i tried to insert the video here but i am not very good with this. i think the file was too big. did not reach the -30 i expected. well here it is. cold start -27 Celcius. Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30.

Well, if you’re looking for colder weather, I’d recommend Winnipeg.

My phone is set to Fahrenheit by the way, so that -31 is considerably colder than -30 C

Cool Video! You must have an aftermarket battery in that. On my CX-5, even at 35*F my battery sounds about like yours did in that -30* !!

Only -16C today and the Jeep almost didn't start, so I think I need a new battery. The remote start has been temperamental this winter and I'm guessing that's why. Original battery, but I expected to get more than 6 years out of it.

-30c here this morning as well. HPL SC 0w-30 did well in the hemi. I also set some up in jars on the snowbank to get a visual of how HPL SC 0w-30/40 and redline 0w-40 looked at -30c. Suprised they looked pretty similar but they are all PAO 0w oils afterall

My son recently bought at 21 Crosstrek Limited. When it sits outside in +40F it sounds like it is not going to start it turns over so slow. It has a brand-new Die-Hard Gold battery. What is up with that? It is sitting outside in Pittsburgh now; we will see how it does there. Bulk 0W-20 in the sump from free dealer oil change.
We have a 2021 Crosstrek with original battery. NAPA 0W20 synthetic. Starts just fine
