A good top-off oil?

WERD!!!

I have used M1 10w30 silver cap (for 90k) & now M1 HM 10w30 (for the last 30k).... I got the vehicle used in '01 (65k) with 4k dino changes before I bought it and it was in perfect health. But upon switching it immediately to M1, it was using more oil than I thought it should. I switched to high-milage M1 and it still will use about the same amount ( about 1qt every 3k).

As far as I am concerned, no healthy car should use a qt every 3k and upon reseraching this years before I joined BITOG, I learned of MANY MANY people online with the same issue; M1 burning of too much as compared to other oils.

I have never taken the time to change oils and see if it helps, but I finally got me some HM dino to try and see if it is really the M1. I do have 180k, but again, it consumes the same amount as when it has 65k so the motor is not worn out (especially on M1 for the last 110k every 3-4k).

And as far as top-off delima, I used to keep around an xtra qt of M1 for that, but I have found that Trop-artic syn blend is a good choice when bought by the case at Sam's club. You could use that OR Supertech if u wanted to top-off with full-syn, but the advice about keeping an extra 5qt jug of M1 is also a good choice...unless you want to try another HM oil and see if it works better...I MYSELF DID NOT LIKE THE MAX-LIFE; my MPG went down and vehicle is sluggish. So far in my "other" vehicle, (non-M1 vehicle), I found it to run best with Pennzoil HM dino, so that is what I am gonna try in my 180k vehicle to in place of M1-HM 10w30

This is all very confusing now since I've joined BITOG.

Save the M1 and/or PP for something that won't blow it out the exhaust. I'd be on the cheapest SM you can find. MAG-1? SuperTech? Dollar store brand?

NO LUCAS =( I LOVE M1 racing m4t superbike oil for topoff - its mobils' premium "real" synthetic and you prob: 1) burn less and 2) the engine power and smoothness benefit is enormous. Problem is its about $9/qt though my 5000 OCI interval topoff is less than a Pint. This oil "booster" saved me from dumping the Synpower I was disappointed with last OCI, smoothed out the motor and regained top end power and consistency of torque delivery.

When did consumption noticeably increase?

Probably when his IRON levels went through the roof in his UOA's

Though folks 'stay away from it in droves', I have found the redbottle QS higher mileage engine oil to work extremely well. It has no API rating, but engines love it. Dont like QS but love this stuff. AFA FastSUV comments on ASHLAND synthhetic - same here - engine(s)in which I trialed the lube ran worse than just about anything with a big mileage hit and lack of smoothness, torque and engine response.

OK, I got 11 qts of M1 10W-30. I've got 8500 miles on current fill, and will change it out at 9000. I was thinking of running the next fill 12000 miles, changing the filter (pureone) at 6000. Try to get through the winter.

And I'm adding 1 qt every 2000 miles. Any thoughts.
