Nevermind. I just looked through this thread and I'm outta here.

This is the shoe equivalent of GT's "Volvo Adventure."

Shoes are one of those things you get what you pay for. I run for exercise so know you get what you pay for.

Nike, Reebok, Asics, Adidas, Brooks, Saucony, etc (except for Skechers - they are junk) all hire scientists to study how the body moves and they make shoes that work with your biomechanics. The junk you get at Wal-Mart, Target, Payless, etc is just that - junk. They are cheap because there is no R&D, low quality materials and less padding.

Your best bet is to go to a running store and get fitted and see what works for you. Yes, you can spend $50-100+ for sneakers but once you know what you need, you can shop last year's models at considerable discount.

I'm lucky in that I can run in just about any name brand sneaker - my cheapest pair is a $39 Nike Dart I got at BJ's. Worked well for me.

Don't be put off by prices - once you F-up your feet you are in for a lifetime of pain and will never be right again.

Thanks. I don't understand why some people on here are so rude. I don't wear shoes so yes the initial shock of 100.00 is a little surprising. I don't know why people like pop rivet have to be so rude. After Christmas I will make an appt for the foot doctor. Some on here do not realize we aren't all made of money. I will buy a decent pair of shoes soon. I need them I'm on my feet a lot now. I'll go to a shoes store and see what they say ill need to find one that's decent I guess.

zappos . com or equivalent (free both ways shipping). sierratradingpost has best prices if you find a 30-35% off coupon, return shipping is $6.
Buy multiple shoes/brands/size, try them on, keep the pair that fit best.

What you might want to try in the mean time is head out to Kohls or something and pick up a pair of cheaper sneakers from a major company. Sometimes you can score something decent in the $40-50 price range. Pick something that feels comfortable and you may be good to go for now.

Out of curiosity - you say you wear boots - many of those have high price tags. I was shocked when I got my 1st pair of cowboy boots this year @ $160.

Once you pay $80 or north of that for a pair of shoes, you will wonder why you were so hard headed before. Same with sun glasses.

I have to wear steel toe work boots at my job, that is at least 12 hours a day not including travel time. At the end of my working week needless to say my feet are howling, and I wear either Wolverines or Dr Martens, the boots that cause the least pain and discomfort over the years i have been stomping around in steel toes. My pair of Nikes and New Balance shoes are a life saver. Either accept that you will have to kick the boots and Wal Mart mentality to find comfort or accept that you will have chronic foot pain.

Why anyone would purposely wear boots aside from work and dress events is beyond me. Good luck with your search though.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned Wallabees by Clarks, but I personally find these to be the most comfortable casual footwear around. I have them in both boot and moccassin style.

As far as "tennis shoes" go, I'm not so sure there is really any relationship between everyday just standing around comfort and price point, although you certainly get better appearance, better material quality, maybe lighter weight or some other characteristic for a specific purpose, etc., at the higher price points.

I have 'em in Adidas (my favorite), New Balance, Nike, Reebok that I can think of off the top of my head, and some of them are less comfortable than a pair of $20 Chinese sneakers I got at Academy Sports.

I broke my heel and my ankle last summer and I pay more attention to shoes now. Some of the cheap sneakers are more comfortable than the expensive ones. Try them and see what works best for you.

I also agree with above ^^^^^ that older style military boots can be comfortable.

i grew up wearing cowboy boots just kinda always had them. i used to work at 6 flags when i was younger and my ariat j toes were very comfortable. so i stuck with them. now that my feet are hurting a lot i am exploring other options. which is why i am asking here. i have to wear boots 5 days a week at school. so i still need them most of the week. but at work i dont need them. so i would wear shoes at work. i really do hate strings i prefer slip on stuff but that's not a must. i hate how when i ask a question i get rude comments. i do listen. if i didn't want advice i wouldn't ask. i dont know much about shoes. i figured shoes like nike and adidas were mostly just for style. thanks to everyone who is actually not rude. i appreciate it.

No one is really that rude just giving you reality of shoes.

You can learn on your own and buy the cheap department store ones or accept advice and maybe alleviate the pain. Nike and Addidas make some shoe lines for style/brand but within have some comfortable well made ones.

Good luck, kick off your boots. I wear $80 flip flops albeit with support mostly for (IT) work.

Comments like the wheel is turning but the hamster is dead is rude and offensive. I try to help people when I can and not be an add but some people on here feel the need to be harsh at hateful. No one is perfect and we all need to Learn we shouldn't be made to feel bad for not knowing.

Another piece of advice I've found works well is rotate your shoes - wear 1 pair one day and the other the next. I've found it extends the life as well as helps your body to be flexible since it has to accommodate the different types shoes. There may be something that works OK with 1 shoe but over time will cause an ache. By rotating you give that thing a chance to not bother you as much.

Don't know I'd go that extreme. "support" or not, flip flops will F-up your feet just as bad and are quite unsanitary to boot. I don't buy the "extreme" barefoot argument that many runners use. Our ancestors barely made it to 40 and with us living into our 80's and 90's many of the problems associated with barefoot didn't show up in them but will in us.

I think men wearing flip flops at work should be outlawed. Nasty. Breaks the work ethics dress code. I always step on their toes accidentally on purpose.

^HA.
If I'm wearing pants (including jeans) and not flip-flops, I feel dressed up. I'll bike in shorts and sandals but have to change once at work. Casual is comfortable when you have the weather to go with it.

I almost feel weird wearing shoes. I guess ill have to get used to it I am going to buy some tomorrow hopefully. I've noticed with most shoes or boots my heel and arch hurt. I have a pair of pumas I am wearing today they are old very old but my arch isn't as bad but my heel is crying . I may check out logos tomorrow I hear they have a good selection.
