ok so i only wear boots. slip on work boots and cowboy boots. well lately my one foot has been killing me. i have a collapsing arch. i figured i would buy a pair of shoes and see how that felt. i went to shoe carnival and walmart and so far been very unimpressed. anyone have any suggestions?

Hush-Puppies model "Gus".

Get at least two pair in your size. Break in one pair, and after they are broken in, get some Snow-Seal in the wax in a jar type from an outdoor camping shop. Be sure the shoes are broken in before you treat them with the wax because they may not break in much after you treat them.

You have to get that wax above 114 Fahrenheit and the shoes should also be that warm. Then while the wax is liquid and the shoes are on old new-paper or cardboard, use a new paintbrush to paint the wax onto the outside of the shoes, and also dip the string.

I use the back seat of a car in July with the windows up.

Use the normal untreated pair for non-rain and non-snow days.

wal mart? give me a break. Go to a proper running and walking store where someone is other than a minimum wage slave and actually knows something. Let them check your foot and arch and help you select a shoe accordingly.

Find a "technical" shoe store in your area-a store that caters to serious runners and walkers. They can measure your gait, pronation/supination, and measure your arches to determine the correct shoe for you. They'll be able to fit you with a shoe that gives you the correct amount of support and stabilizes your gait. Not only your feet, but your hips and back will thank you.

If you're required to wear boots at work (I doubt a pizza jockey has such a requirement) then wear lower healed lace up work boots recommended by the same technical shoe store with arch supports.

There's a reason why those of us who run/walk and spend serious time on our feet don't wear cowboy boots-they are some of the worst possible footwear, with poor arch support, high heals and pointy toes. You might as well wear high healed ladies shoes-both do about the same damage to your feet.

i hate anything with laces. i like to be able to slip on and go. why would you say faux? not sure what you mean by that. yes i know what the word means but i am pretty sure you used it out of context. my boots are all square toe as well. i wore my rockys today and my feet felt better but still it doesn't really fix the issue. the rockys have more of a work boot sole not as arched and high healed as cowboy boots. i would wear a slip on shoe of some sort if i found one that was something i would wear. i am not a guy who really cares much on how i look but i always wear a hat and i always wear boots. its second nature.

You have your answer right there, yet you choose to ignore it and wonder why you can't find decent quality shoes at the worst possible places to purchases quality shoes. Then you turn around and post the same question over? Do you really expect a different answer?

If you have foot pain and want quality shoes, follow the above advice, or continue your vain search at cut rate low quality shoe stores.

well to be honest after going to shoe carnival and looking at them some of walmarts starters looked to be just as good for 1/3 the price. shoes like nike and adidas are grossly overpriced. 80 bucks for a pair of shoes is crazy unless they're actually good quality and not just a name.

New Balance 993's are very good shoes. Those will be my next pair. They're around $130 and worth every penny. Super comfortable and made in the USA.

we have a browns which i went to and then did the measurements and said i needed an 80 dollar insole that they didn't have. they're are the only real shoe store around and they dont have a very big selection and what they have is over priced.

The adidas shoes are very well made. As I said I get mine for $40 and they easily last me 2 and 1/2+ years. I used to get the cheap ones (walmart, target, etc.) and they would only last 1/2 year.

Do you have Dunhams stores near you?

Kid - shoes and boots are the problem. Give your taters a break. Get a cheap pair of running sneakers, let your paws breathe. They come in black, etc. Some look like shoes. Use the boots, use the sneaks every so often. Your landing gear will thank you.

huh??? kid shoes? and all that other stuff??? you lost me.

I'd recommend SAS Shoes. They may be out of your price range, but they are:
Extremely durable
Extremely comfortable
Quite light weight
And made in San Antonio, TX.

I've had a few pair so far and they are my only shoe of choice now. They all provided excellent, long service.

Ok. I have a bum ankle from playing sports. Fractured it in my 20's, haunting me now. Its the ankle joint. compression. I can only wear hard sole boots/shoes for a few hours/at work and I'm in pain. When I get home or go to the store out come the sneakers with rubber soles. Rotating back and forth keeps the miles off my ankle. What you should do. Not all shoes and boots, rotate in a pair of rubber soled running sneakers. They cheap. Then wear the boots when your going wherever.

The suggestions to go to a good running/walking shoe are valid. They won't be cheap, but anything less will just cover the bottoms of your feet. I know that's not the answer you wanted, but it's true.

If you have a collapsing arch, you'll almost *have* to go with orthotics. Regular mfgr shoes aren't typically made to compensate for that. I'm not saying none will but a good many won't.

I know; I have flattish arches myself. When I was in my teens and would spend all day on my feet wrenching or working in a warehouse, I could barely walk that night and sometimes worse the following morning.

I have orthotics which I got from a podiatrist. I realize that may not be an option, so I want to suggest a possible alternative. Some Walmart's I've been in have (I think) Dr. Scholl's machines in the pharmacy area (?) that read the bottoms of your feet then produce a soft orthotic. To my knowledge they aren't hard arch supports and may not be as effective but may well get you some relief for
I find I can wear my orthotics with some shoes as-is while with others I pull the inner liner of the shoe out so there isn't too much pressure on the instep from raising my foot too high (overcompensated).

Definitely ditch the cowboy boots and work boots. Your feet will love you for it, and you'll love not having aching feet. The $60-90 you pay for good footwear will be one of the best investments you'll ever make. If there is a Kohl's near you, they often have a wide variety of sneakers for decent, but not cheap, prices.

Hope this helps.
