I was 1 mile away from my house going 35mph going around a curve. It ran right into the driver side wheel and fender. I never saw it coming as there is a tree line, hit pretty perpendicular. There were no injuries however, it looks like I'll be having to replace my driver front fender. Those can't be too cheap on a '11 F150. I'm glad it was the truck and not the focus or the Taurus, it could have flipped up onto the hood or windshield. My comprehensive deductible is $500 so we will see how close the repair is and if its even worth it to file a claim.

They do that. My wife stopped dead and a deer rammed her left rear quarter panel kinda by the gas filler.

They are dumb dumb dumb!

The only smart ones are old bucks, and they even get stupid during the rut.

The frustrating thing is theres not much a person can do to avoid the accident in this case.

Deer are dangerous, you all be careful. Here in Tennessee on I40 , they pick up many deer everyday from hits. They will blow out your tires, come in the windshield and usually you are not alive if your hit on that one. They are along the river road near me in the morning and evening, like herds in the road and they just look at you.....amazing.

You can train yourself not to run off the road trying to avoid a deer.

Right, same for any animal because if you wreck then its a collision and not comprehensive, but that still does not stop the deer from running into you! lol

My wife had one jump out in front of her last fall. We had to get a rental due to front end damages. Exactly one week later, another one jumped out in front of the rental. At least the damages were just cosmetic. But still...

While you are safer in a truck, do not think that a truck is 100 percent safe when it comes to a deer hit.

I still remember the full size pick up truck with the bloody windshield at a gas station by where I use to go hunting. The station attendant said there were two men in the truck, a father and his son. The father was driving, the sun was in the front passenger seat and the deer leaped up and ended up going through the windshield on the passenger side. The son who was a full grown man died from the deer hitting him.

So even in a truck if the deer ends up hitting it bad enough someone in the truck can end up getting killed.

My wife hit a 300Lb buck with her Durango going 40mph. Killed the buck on the spot and did almost $7000 damage to the Durango. The chrome grill cover was stuck to the deer. But the Durango didn't even stall and the airbags didn't deploy. She kept going and went to a friends home that was near our dealership. There was deer fur stuck to the firewall.

I hit a 150lb doe with my 99 Suburban going 40 mph. No damage...it was like 8 ball in the side pocket.

I hit one on I-75 back in 2007, it was just a juvenile, I think it was a doe, I didn't see any horns on it. It ran out in front of me in broad daylight, I was going about 70 or 75 mph. Totaled the deer and did $3,500.00 worth of damage to my truck. I pulled off to the side to take a look at my truck, drove to the gas station at the next exit and they let me use their water hose to wash what guts and fur I could off my truck. I called my insurance, they wanted to send a tow truck but I was still able to drive my truck over 80 miles back home to a local body shop..I was lucky I didn't get hurt but I hit the deer and still kept going in a straight line. I found out two things that day:

1. Deer are incredibly stupid, even the does
2. Deer guts really stink something awful

I was very lucky it was a small deer and I did get hurt or hit any other cars on the road. It happened at about 11:30 in the morning.

Aftermarket 300$, couple more $
+ Paint

I would search ebay and car-part.com ( searched car part they have plenty OE in many color around 200$ )

I was up in Montana a few years back, driving at night, and this baaambee ran in front of me; I missed her be no more than five feet. Lucky for us both. I sure saw a lot of dead ones at the side of the road though.

Deer are pretty smart when it comes to survival and evading predators such as humans, wolves, or coyotes.
They just don't seem to know that the big thing bearing down on them in the road can kill them. Cars are not a natural thing and they are just not wired to be afraid of them. One reason why it is illegal to hunt from a vehicle most places.

About a year ago (I can't remember the exact date) I was on the elevated road above Mercy Hospital and in front of me there was a full grown deer running around with vehicles going both directions. The deer and other vehicles managed to avoid contact, and then the deer jumped over the railing on the side of the elevated road. There is something like a hundred to two hundred foot drop there depending on where the deer jumped, either way there is no way that animal lived. I wish I had a video camera showing that deer jumping around the vehicles and finally over the railing. If a deer is not smart enough to protect it own life, why would anyone think it is smart enough to not get into an accident with moving vehicles.

Looks like itll be an insurance claim. $2K preliminary number. Did a lot more damage that originally thought, now that its daylight out.

I figured it would be way over your deductible. Go through your insurance. Your truck is new enough, and deserves decent replacements.

I have seen hundreds maybe thousands of deer as I have been driving in my life. I used to brag quite a bit that I had never hit one. Well before Christmas 2013 I was hit. I had terrible sleeps for the next few days. I replayed the event in my mind over and over, revisited the spot and there was nothing that I could have done differently to avoid what happened. Like it had a death wish, it just ran right into the side of my car. I wasn't even going 40mph.

Deer are just stupid and dangerous. I am paranoid at dusk and dawn now more than I ever have been before.
