A/C stopped working after recharging

I was told never to buy refrigerant with leak sealer in it. Has that advice now changed with better type of leak sealers?

Personally I was just going to try and buy "regular" refrigerant and not bother with any stop leak stuff. That fact that it has taken over a year for the a/c to get "worse" to the point where I feel the need to act leads me to believe I don't have much of a leak, just the result of 12.5 years since the assembly line.

You should never use refrigerant with leak sealer because the sealer can cause all kinds of problems. If the system has a leak, the correct way is to find it and fix it.

Are the seal conditioner different than leak sealer? Almost all of the DIY A/C cans these days have one or the other in it.

You should never use anything but straight refrigerant. Those DIY cans are only a quick fix and don't fix what the real problem is. I don't use the DIY cans anymore after learning how to fix an AC system correctly.

The seal conditioners in some cans really aren't likely to hurt anything. They aren't likely to help much of anything either. Repeatedly adding this stuff presents the same possible problem as adding too much oil and reducing system capacity. If the can says it's got stop leak in it that's another story because that can cause some real damage to an AC system, even one that got very little if anything wrong with it in the first place.
