My brother lives in Fairbanks AK. Part of the AK pipeline is nearby. While visiting my brother, my parents took a tour of a pumping station (not sure where it was in relation to Fairbanks)

My father overheard a woman wondering why it was not noisier; Asking why it should be noisier, the woman said,

"Because there are all those barrels of oil going through the pipeline!"

That's funny...remember when some redneck took a high-powered rifle and shot the pipeline...that wasn't funny!..you'd have thought after the Exxon-Valdez, Alaskans would prefer to not have another oil spill!

I guess I would have interpreted her comments differently. People all the time refer to "barrels" of oil as a quantity and not necessarily a literal barrel of oil. For example, a tanker runs ashore and it's reported that it spilled 1000 barrels of oil. People take that to mean a quantity of oil and not that there are 1000 barrels bobbing in the sea. I would assume the woman was suggesting that the pipeline would be noisier since there is such a large quantity of oil flowing through it.

Would that be dino or sythetic. If they switched to Amsoil, I'll bet you couldn't even hear it.
