Ok guys, '97 Mustang 3.8L 88k miles. New serpentine belt and it is still makes a chirping noise near the belt area every so often.
Idler pulley? tensioner pulley?? water pump going bad?? water pump is not leaking.
Does not make noise all the time, mostly when engine is cold.Any ideas?? Thanks

Use a piece of hose, putting one end in your ear and one by the accessory. You will be able to tell which accessory is causing the issue this way.

Also make sure there is enough tension from the tensioner.

bdcardinal,
Could you describe the camshaft synchronizer, is it the square black box that the plug wires come out of ?? Thanks

Look on the front of the topside of the block where the distributor would go. There is a synchrinozer that goes down into the block with the gear that gets spun by the cam. Then there is a sensor on top.

The part you are describing is the coil pack.

Found it this morning after getting home from work. Looks like it is directly below coil pack. Do I need special tools to remove it? I plan on doing the synchronizer and all. Thanks
