Have a 94 F150 4.9 L truck (110k mi.) with factory A/C and P/S. This truck is equipped with an OEM (EPA required) smog/air emissions pump that is known to sometimes fail due to age/wear. My EPA required smog/air pump seems to be okay for now, but as I understand reliable replacement/rebuilt smog/air pumps (EPA required) can be hard to locate for this particular application. Can any members provide recommendations/guidance on procuring a spare EPA required smog/air pump?

Does it have to work or does it just have to be there? I ask because our emissions inspection where I am are just visual but in other parts of my state they are sniffed.

In my locale it does not have to be there/installed. No sniff in my locale either thankfully.

If this truck is exempt in your area, it'll likely be pretty easy to eliminate the pump rather than repair/replace it. Either with a "dummy" idler pulley in place of the pump, or remove the pump and install a shorter belt.
Have not been able to find an idler pulley/bracket mount for my application, so my next option would be a different/shorter belt if my smog pump does eventually fail (no doubt due to age/wear).

Folks -
BITOG allows for conversations about legal things. Deleting or defeating the emissions equipment is prohibited, and therefore conversation of the same ilk is also taboo. It is permissible to discuss repair/replacement of such equipment.

See our rules in the Standard of Conduct ...

Do not initiate or participate in conversations and/or link materials which promote or encourage illegal or prohibited behavior(s). Examples of such prohibited content would be, but are not limited to, the following:
- products or "how to" information regarding deleting/defeating emissions control systems.

You have a 31-year-Old Vehicle, if your Smog Pump has lasted 31 years you really have nothing to worry about. It looks like you got the best Smog Pump from 1994.

I'd crawl underneath and make sure the pipe still physically connects to the catalytic converter. They often rust out. The cat has a check valve in the air injection circuit so you won't get an exhaust leak.

I woulda let you have mine, but that was decades ago. Try fullsizebronco.com, seems a lot of those guys are still building for trail use and if they haven't grown tired of tripping over the air pump on their floor, you could probably have it for a song.

I'm not familiar with the 300 serp routing, but I'd look at a shorter belt. Obviously, only for ag/private property use.

I bet that the innards are all the same. Usually the vanes get too short and fall out of place then that locks the pump up .

Might want to grab a few from picapart. One to practice on and a couple others for parts you can rob.
