So I noticed in drive the car seem Like its going into lockup . Does it in 2nd to but if you put it in low and go its fine it only does it on wot or close to it. Fluid is good I noticed when i unplugged tps it idled a hair higher but instead of going then shifting and falling on its face and then realizing so it'll shift down and then imediatly back up does this 3 times or so then it's all good. When the tps is unplugged it doesn't shift back and forth it just goes then shifts to the high gear and stays there. Could it be the tps? There no engine lights and it only does it when taking off at 90% throttle or more.

If the fluid is less than new I would start there.
I've also found using the Toyota T-IV fluid in transmissions that are spec'd for Dexron III seems to help with strange shifting.
I used it in my '95 Camry and it fixed a lazy shift.
It had the same A140E Transmission that your '91 has.
I think it will run you about $10.00 a quart from your local Toyota Dealer. But the good news is that the transmission only takes 1.5-2 quarts, as the differential is filled seperately.
I understand what you mean about having it at 90%-WOT, as these engines are bagless. Very Reliable, but bagless.

Says in the manual a drain and refill is 2.6 quarts. It doesn't do it if you start out in low only in 2nd or drive. I'm not sure if maybe its the tps or a shift solenoid. Idk. I used dexron its what the book says.
So adjusting the tps helped however if I'm stopped and shift from d to 2 then right back to d it'll do it it feels like it getting stuck between gears bogs out from to high s gear then hits lower gear and goes for half a second then hits high gear bogs out again . Is there a way to adjust the linkage? Could it be the the adjustment is off and needs redone? Seems like something simple.

What do you mean by "adjusting" the TPS?
A common thing with Japanese cars was a tps with a switch on it that closed at idle. That is, it had the normal potentiometer, but also another switch. I believe you have to adjust these so that the switch is closed at idle.
Seems to do it more after its been driven awhile. I got a code no engine light but did check the codes and it gas a speed sensor code. I made another thread about it I have no idea where the darn thing is though. Glad we wont have this car to long . I was approved surprisingly for student loans so I will be probably getting rid of it in September. My fiance will learn to drive it and then we will get her a nicer car. This Toyota is good enough for now but who knows for how long with a quirky transmission and shoddy engine compression. Only has 160,000 miles and its had routine maintenance so the low compression on one cylinder kinda suprises me. But all in all its not that bad. It runs smooth and interior is excellent outside is OK so all in all its a good first car for her. And as long as I don't put a lot of cash into it'll will have served its purpose sufficiently

Well it's funny how problems arise. There really isn't anything wrong with it except it hasn't been driven much and everything is gummed up. The ring issue seems fixed and the speed sensor will be as soon as i figure out where it is
