So the engine light isn't on in the Camry but when I checked it I got codes 14 41 42. 14 is no ignition signal 41 tps and 42 is speed sensor. Could that be why my transmission is shifting all wacky? Where is the speed sensor? Could a bad tps cause the speed sensor code? I also unplugged the tps to see what difference in running it made so that could be why that code is there. 14 is probably from the ignition tumblers being worn to the point the key can be taken out while running. So that leaves the speed sensor. Can it cause strange shifting mostly noticed under hard acceleration from take off or going unfmder 15 MPH and flooring it? Thanks guys

The vehicle speed sensor will really mess with the shifting. It should be on the transmission somewhere. Not really that familiar with your car but it is on the transmission in most front wheel drive cars. Your code for the TPS is because you disconnected it and that may also have caused it to set the ignition code as well.Some codes trigger each other. Best thing to do is reset the computer if you have access to a scanner or many local parts stores will do it for free. Then you can see which come back, just make sure not to disconnect any connectors like you did with the TPS so it does not set a false code. If you are having transmission shifting issues then the speed sensor is most likely your problem in this case. See if you can do some research and find out which connector it is on the transmission and see if you can get to it to make sure the wiring looks ok. Sometimes just disconnecting it and plugging it back in can clean off the terminals to make a better connection if corrosion is an issue. You may have to go back in there and clean the terminals if they are corroded. This way you can see if it improves your shifting issues. 9 times out of 10 the speed sensor will do that and if you are getting the code for it then it is very likely the problem. Those sensors tend to be pricey so make sure you check out the wiring to make sure nothing got in there and chewed it up or disconnected it.
So I still haven't found the speed sensor on my 91 Camry where could it be?

This sensor is apparently in two parts, one in the transmission and the other is in the speedometer cluster.
You need to remove what they are calling the case protector on the transmission and its under that with a wire connector.
I don't know for sure but my guess is its a plastic or sheet metal cover probably held on with a couple of small bolts.
The other part is in the dash on the speedometer itself, look for a used one if its shot as this thing is about $250.
There is a way to test it with a volt ohm meter.

Is it towards the back of the transmission then?
It looks like its near where the drivers side CV axle is, above it and to the front. Hard to tell from these awful drawings.
No. Its a second. I found it but you have to take the axle out to get it I think
Make sure you have reference voltage coming out of the computer going into your sensors, it's usually exactly +5 volts. If something is shorted or pulling too much current it will drag down every sensor in the car and throw a ton of codes.
"No ignition signal" on a GM OBD-I car, at least, means "no ignition signal right now" which is normal for a car with the key on and engine not running. Probably how you get codes too? Anyway I bet it's unrelated to your key.
