Been awhile since I have been particularly active over here. When I was the typically recommended Mobil 1 5w30 was a mediocre choice at best but I have heard it may have changed.

The Advance Auto sale on Mobil 1 and filter got me interested again.
Anyone have any current info on which Mobil 1 would suit the LT1 well?

I know GC is about the best choice for this motor, just wondering if any of the Mobil 1s are finally living up to their reputation in this engine.

I tried looking in the used oil analysis section but noting recent came up.

My sister had an LT1 and it really liked the Valvoline Maxlife 5w30 or 10w30. Revved perfectly with it, and even stopped the slight oil weepage that it had.

My '88 IROC 5.7 TPI has only seen M1 from day 1, loves the
stuff either 5w30 or 10w30, the AAP sale is a great deal
grab a jug and filter and try it,i think your LT1 will be happy.

Awesome car Daman! Those things are getting very rare. I can`t remember the last time I even saw one.

I agree with you on the Mobil 1. It`s the oil I always keep coming back to (curiosity had gotten ahold of me in the past to try out different oils). My car seems to "like" that oil the best. Always runs smooth and never any startup noise. My current fill is Mobil 1 10W40 HM w/Mobil 1 filter. I decided to bump down to that from the 15W50.

You would love mine then, it only has 48,000 original miles on it
like new,i hardly drive it,it hasn't seen day light in 10 years it's
in storage wrapped up on blocks in my back garage that i specifically build for it..lol

it's only seen Mobil 1 since the day it rolled outa GM in 1988,i'm the second owner it's that flame red color.

I was specifically looking to take advantage of the M1 sale at Advance Auto. I know about GC and bought out the local Autozone when they had a similar special.

Buffman knows me but maybe this will tell the rest of you how familiar I am with the LT1.

The Caprice is me, ugly because I have this habit of hitting deer at 5:30am, heads and cam, stock shortblock, no nitrous or boost, drive the thing about 8K miles a year. That is getting GC this season.

I also have a Caprice wagon that is my foul weather driver/hauler and I was looking to put some M1 in there, that one is stock for all practical purposes and I am a bit cheap in maintaining the "stock" car, the fast one gets the good stuff.

Dwayne, in my experince my LT1 didn't like the Mobil 1 0w40. There's always the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w40 formula, or the 0W30 they have in their fancy green container.

The 0w30 has a CST of 11.0 @ 100C.

You could always just do the 5w30 and see how it plays out with a used oil analysis.

The local Advance has a limited selection, the very small Walmart right down the road actually has a better M1 selection. If they had the 0w30 "fuel economy" blend at Advance I might just try it.
