I am going to go check out an 89 corvette when I wake up. Red exterior and red interior. Looks to be in great shape from the pictures other than some minor wear on the driver seat, which is to be expected.

The car has 62k miles on it. Automatic.

Does anyone have any tips on what to look for or any problem areas with the 89 c4? Does anyone have any useful input on the vehicle before I go check it out? Any help is much appreciated.

Transmission first. Check for prompt engagement without harshness when you select drive or reverse.

The rear suspension is a commonly ignored area, wag the car side to side at 30 mph or so and feel for worn stuff.

Otherwise it's like any other used car. Basically reliable machines with decent drivetrains.

I had a 91, basically the same the car.

Make sure the rear U-Joints for the driveshafts from the diff to the wheel bearings are good. They are a pain to change.

It is a true SBC, check around the intake for any leaks.
This is a L98/TPI car so the intake is more involved to remove if you need to change the gasket.

Make sure the water pump isn't leaking. It is harder to replace then a normal small block.

Other wise they are pretty reliable and parts are cheap.
I put 190,000 miles on mine before I had to do the Transmission and I used it pretty hard.

I am a C4 lover. I have a 1994 Admiral Blue LT1 with Z07 package and a 1991 L98. I also do side work on them as a hobby and for extra cash.

These are solid and dependable cars and parts are easy to get and easy to work on for the most part. Like another poster said - check the transmission for good shifts and vac leaks. Also check for good alignment and look for prior damage. Don't be alarmed at overspray under the car - they are all that way from the factory. But do look for over spray behind the rear tag where there it is open and painters usually overspray on the gas tank. With just 60k miles - I think you will find a very presentable car. Other areas of common issues are: weatherstrips - these do not last long on C4's, if the Delco/Bose radio is still there and working consider yourself blessed. The amps go out but are not too expensive to fix. If the digital dash is still working - that is good too. I could go on - but when you see the car your heart will tell you yes or no..

If you want to know the truth about these - PM me with any questions and I can also run a GM vin report for you like I've done for several other folks on here.

Really - the drivetrains are great, it'll be the little squeaks/rattles and leaks that will frustrate you more, LOL! You must go around the interior once a year and tighten all the phillips screws on the trim pieces inside and keep the weatherstrips lubed up.
