comfortable with for your riding / push mower engine(s) use in these temps ?

I try to mow early 7:30 or 8:00 AM because it takes 2 hours on a riding mower. Down here it isn't comfortable but it has to be done. Right now the temp. is 86* with a heat index of 95* which is cooler than it usually is. The humidity is 67 and the dew point is 74.

Do you mean the comfortable with running the engine in that temp or personal comfort? I wear a light colored shirt and i wear shorts when pushmowing, drink a lot of water. 2 hrs in a stretch is all i want to pushmow in 90degree heat. As for the mowers, I dont worry at all they are designed to run in hot temps.

Depends on the humidity for me in terms of comfort. For the engine, Id be OK below 95 or so in direct sun (because over that Id likely not be doing it during the day).

80 degrees is nothing. Just make sure you keep the cooling fins on the engine clean and free of dirt to keep the engine running cool. If you allow oil/dirt to get caked on there the engine can overheat and burn out the rings. I mow the yard in 100 degree heat and have no problems.

I do not cut when it is this hot. Stresses the grass and the grass is best left to be taller than normal in hot weather. Helps retain moisture and slows down the spread of crabgrass.

The burmudagrass is in it's winter or dormant stage so weeds are taking over. Have to keep weeds cut low in order to control drought tolerant pests like fleas, grasshoppers(and weeds).

I would worry more about operator comfort

yesterday I ran my HF generator @ about 75% load for about 12 hours and it topped out at 105F. I'm running T5 10w-30 in it. (makes me wonder if I should step it up a grade)

I even snapped a pic with my phone ([censored] phone i know).. thermometer is in the shade too.

The key is our humidity is moderate so it doesn't feel as hot.

+1

Been 100+ here for the last 2 weeks. Finally got a little rain to cool things off. It was in the 80s this evening, and did it feel good!

Can (push) mow for about 1-1/2 hours at around the 100F mark. Work up a decent sweat, then inside for a cool shower. Nothing like it.

At 80 degrees, a couple hours of push mower would be a good workout for me. But any engine could run forever at 80 with no problems.

Also, I think some folks are getting overexcited about the new "heat index" reports that are happening. Those aren't the actual temperature. (Not directly related to the original post...)

Actually wouldn't a mower run cooler in super humid air? All the water must give the air more heat capacity and take more heat out of the engine.
I don't run cooler though in high humidity though so an hour or two is all I want to push my mower for. Then I go jump in the pond...

80 degrees is nothing. If I waited until it was in the 80s to mow, I'd have to cut my grass after 10PM from late may until early october. I try for temps below one hundred, never mind the heat index.

" Do you mean the comfortable with running the engine in that temp or personal comfort? "

Was referring to the engine , but both are fine .
