Im contemplating switching my 2006 accent over to synthetic at its 45,000 oil change. I have been changing the pennzoil 5-20/5-30 every 3750K miles (half of the manufacturers recommended 7500 interval). It's mainly a commuter, about 80 miles of freeway per day. I would like to be able to go the whole 7500mi between changes. What 5-20/30 would be a good synthetic for the hot summer and 7500 mi intervals?

Pennzoil Platinum or Amsoil are two of the best.
PP, Amsoil or Mobil 1 would all be great choices. Truthfuly almost any synthetic should be able to go 7500 miles without any problem.
Regular API SM 5-20 or 5-30 is fine for 7500 intervals on that vehicle driven in that manner. I run over 10000 mile intervals with PP in a vehicle that is recommended to go 5000 between changes. Stellar UOA's.

Get a 5 gallon container of Mobil 1 at Walmart, maybe they have PP also, cannot remember. I would get a decent filter to go the 7500 miles, as in Mobil 1 filter or Amsoil Ea filter. Or a Supertech and change it half way through.
Amsoil is also excellent synthetic oil also, just a little harder to get and more expensive.

5 quart you mean? And why bother changing the filter?

Like most have said, any sm dino will more than likely get you safely to 7500 miles. A pure one filter, wix, napa etc will get you 7500 miles also pretty easily.
If you wanted to do synthetic, and while I agree amsoil is probably one of the best right now, any readily available syn at walmart or auto parts store will get you 7500 easily. A syn blend would get you there no problems.
You can even make you own syn blend. I have used 3 qrts pennzoil 5W30 and 1.5 qrts pennzoil platinum. You can do half and half or whatever you wanted to do. Just an idea

That car has a very small sump. It only holds a total capacity of 3.5 quarts. And thats with a filter. My wife has one. Having a smaller amount of oil to lubricate the entire engine, means that less has to do more.

Next change I am going to try Valvoline Synpower
only because I got it at a buy one get one free sale. And a Purolator Pure One filter. I like the purolator filters as well as the Mobil1. I think the Pure One filters are just as good as the Mobil1 filters too.

The valvoline synpower is decent. I feel (just personal opinion) that the M1 would do better for 1 yr intervals depending on the miles driven. I use pure ones myself. Although I did get an M1 filter when I got 5 quarts of GC 0W30 with the deal autozone had going on.
My Corolla has a sump of 3.8 quarts incl filter. Highway about 80% of the time with VERY short (less than 2 miles ROUND TRIP with a hour between) for the other 20%.

Small sump. 7500 miles with your engine and commute. Any SM oil will do.

I don't mind changing the wifes synthetic in her Hyundai every 5000 miles. It can take her 6-7 months to rack it up. I think that a quality oil change twice a year is not too much to do. And I feel its money well spent. $50-$60/year on oil maint. is OK with me.
Especially when I can find it on sale.

I get free oil changes for life on my Mazda that I bought new. Now that was a major selling point.
Oh yeah, and if the engine ever blows while I own it, no matter the miles, its also guaranteed for life.

It is your money but can you prove any benefits by using syn oils.
