I have a 64 chevelle convertible 3500 lbs, 3.31 12 bolt.
For the moment Im running a 210 hp 305 with a oem 700r4(4L60) from a 1991 pickup with 4.3 l v6. If i remember correctly it was a ck 1500.
I added a ”Corvette servo” from ebay works good. 1-2 is firm softer 2-3 and even softer 3-4 shift. If Im correct its same as a basic v8 700r4?

Built a 355 for it 340-350 hp and 420-450 ft/lbs.(the higher are optimistic its a 10:1 comp 355 with comp XR258, trickflow 175 heads, Edelbrock EPS intake)

What would the 700r4 need to live behind a 355 like that? My hp/torque should be ok with a well prepped 700r4? 99% street(of course it will be fun to do some decent burnouts from time to time)
Parts Im thinkg except a good kit?

Im thinking a smartshell from sonnax?
Boost valve from sonnax .500?
Wider sonnax band.
BORG-WARNER 29236AM
SONNAX 77002BT01 stator bushing
SONNAX 7701001 Sun gear bushing
BORG-WARNER 28571AM

Should I reuse the ”corvette servo” or get sonnax servo?

Shift kit? Transgo 700sk? Or is 700 jr better?

What other parts like steels and frictions do I use?

Reuse the alu pistons? It has alu pistons, right?

Sprags? Can I just upgrade them or are they like 400’s you need a correct drum?

Pump what pump do I most likley have? 13 vane? Ok with 13 vane?

Converter? V6 converter ok with added hp or is a change needed? Hughes? Freakshow? Ok

How about transcooler? Right now an 5 lines to oem style radiator ok? Or is a standalone a good idea even with oem converter? An5 enough?

Im from Sweden so will buy from rockauto they have sonnax and borgwarner parts and/or amazon/ebay for a ”kit”.
Is a kit like this what I want?

This is my response to the PM impala454 sent me.....To catch everyone up.

A stock Borg Warner 4L60E 2/4 band will handle 600 HP in a heavy GMT800 SUV! If the Reverse Input Drum is in questionable shape.....Replace it, GM still sells new ones made in Taiwan that are pretty good!
Adjust band clearance with a Sonnax apply pin.

The 3/4 Clutch is what you need to concentrate on....I'd do 7 .080" Borg Warner's, 6 .077" steels, 4L60E apply & backing plates, With new load release springs (4L60E style).

It likely has a 10 vane pump rotor, Upgrade to a 13 Vane rotor with all new GM parts! A successful build starts with a blueprinted pump! There are different thickness rotors & slides.

If you like the shift points....Use a TransGo Jr.

TransGo .500 boost valve

Skip the pan & install a auxiliary cooler.

Run all 4L60E molded pistons....Need the lower overrun piston return spring retainer from a 4L60E.

Borg Warner 29 element forward sprag, A '91 unit will have the good sprag housing already.

Replace all bushings.....This can be daunting for someone new to building, Dura Bond is the only decent "kit" available, Sonnax sells a few bushings but no complete kit.

You would need to start a thread to get more in depth technical information.

So a kit like this for the pump? Or is GM needed? or do I need billet? https://www.ebay.com/itm/191222270664

So the amazon kit is junk?

But this parts are ok?
smartshell from sonnax?
Boost valve from sonnax .500?
Wider sonnax band.
BORG-WARNER 29236AM
SONNAX 77002BT01 stator bushing
SONNAX 7701001 Sun gear bushing

Or are the wide sonnax band unnecessary?

So no need to get the 700sk shiftkit? Transgo is the best shiftkits?

So get sonnax pin? Or the complete sonnax servo? My current ”corvette servo” with pin is not useable? Checked the travel when I put it in the transmission and it was within spec but guess it will change with new parrs inside?

A Vette 2nd servo is also good to 600 HP, A bigger 4th servo piston is needed for full throttle 3-4 shifts but most 700R4/4L60's won't do that anyway. We can manipulate the 3-4 shift by blocking the accumulator & enlarging the feed orifice in the separator plate.

You want to be conservative on the 1-2 shift & aggressive on the 2-3 & 3-4 shifts.

The Rotor & Slide are selectable, First step is to plastigauge what you have now.....Gutting & cleaning the pump, Install just the Rotor & Slide, Lay 4 pieces of plastigauge on the rotor & slide (8 total).....Bolt the pump back together at 18 ft lbs, Let it rest for 30 minutes, Break it back apart & measure the crushed plastics.

Transmission building is much more than it's sum of parts.

So current ebay corvette servo is ok? Its one of those red versions sold from multiple places. Or are the sonnax parts what I want need?

Ok so I need to take it apart first? Thought I could order most of the stuff needed and started the rebuild when most was bought and in my hands. Is the 13 vane upgrade really needed for my power level and use?
I built quite a few engines same basic sum as you stated with them.

I've been building 4L60/4L60E's for 30 years...It's the one thing that has endured throughout my career. Can you just throw parts at something & make it work...Sure. Building one you have to stand behind for 100,000 miles takes more effort.

I respect that and if you was close I would have you build me one.

Assume stupid as Im are, I did use my oem 10 vane pump if in good condition.
And bought the following parts

smartshell from sonnax
Boost valve from sonnax .500?
Wider sonnax band.
BORG-WARNER 29236AM
SONNAX 77002BT01 stator bushing
SONNAX 7701001 Sun gear bushing
BORG-WARNER 28571AM
SONNAX 77005T pump bushing
GM GENUINE 24245624 Drum
PIONEER 754010 Bushing Kit

Transgo sk700 shiftkit

Current ebay ”corvette servo” kit with pin

Amazon kit above(cut scarf teflon seals)

Torrington bearing kit(koyo)

Parts above ok for 430-440 hp and 420-450 lbs torque? If core snd every part inside it are ok. Or are some not needed or do I need more parts?

Oem torque converter ok?
If not a hughes 25HD or freakshow.
