I picked up a vehicle (1983 Dodge Rampage) that has Mobil 1 Oil from 7 years ago in it. The previous owner kept the vehicle in a garage, for the most part, and it wasn't driven much in that time. The oil is still clean and golden-looking. Filter is also Mobil 1.

He says it's fine. What say you? Can the vaunted Mobil 1 hold the fort for 7 years?

Thanks

You can always pull a sample and test it. You could even pull the filter and use that as your oil sample source if you dont have a pump. I'm willing to bet the oil is just fine. It'd be neat to verify either way via a UOA.

Change it and the filter.

A UOA will prevent you from dumping good oil in the future though.

Good luck with the Rampage! I wish I could find a solid one here on the east coast.

Well, that's if there was a useful amount of miles put on the oil, or if the user is thinking of going another 7 years without an oil change.

I'd only change the oil filter. Its media contains mostly cellulose paper (some glass fibers too). The oil itself is fine, not undergoing hot-cold cycling and combustion, etc.

Congrats on finding the ugliest car ever made! OK, maybe the Gremlin was uglier, not sure....

Its cool though, a redneck dream, El Camino-mini!

Seriously though, I wish they made El Camino -style cars these days.

Yes change it but - run car up to operating temp, then change it. The purpose is to let all of the surface rust, and particulates wash into the oil.

Change it. In fact I would not run it for any length of time until I changed the oil filter. a C&P of that would be great!

Yes, you can tell it's not their car we're talking about.

I've learned that *WHENEVER* I ask a question like this, that I'm better off doing it. So, if it's not going to cause you to miss a mortgage payment, then change it!
