7-Eleven Plans to Close 444 Stores in U.S., Canada

I just noticed a 7/11 was recently torn down and in a rather affluent area. Circle K right across the street though. They are pretty big here along with Speedway and Casey's. Circle K took over the Phillips 66 stations here south of Chicago.

7/11 hasn't been in this region for a long time though they did buy Speedway, which is the predominant gas station here. They never re-branded though. I'll bet the 7/11 locations that are closing are ones that don't also sell fuel. That's what UDF (United Dairy Farmers) has done over the years. They used to be a very common, corner convenience store but all of the ones that didn't sold gas are now sold off.

Speedway was purchased by 7/11 a few years ago...

4 yrs ago there was a 7/11 on a corner near us, it closed, it was demolished, and the property was scaped clean and remained that way until, about a yr ago they started building another 7/11 on the same property, opened here a week ago, TX hwy46 & US281.

And by the looks of their stores (which they have put no money into), many of them should be closed...
I talked to a store manager about that. It's all about sales. The busy stores, they'll actually tear down and rebuild on the same spot with their new, nicer designs. The older cramped stores with lower sales will stay that way.
