ive noticed that most ford owners are very adamant about using motocraft parts im not one of them. ive searched all the forums and cant find a definitive answer. im doing a filter change pan dump and am wondering if I can refill with Dexron vi most forums and oil manufatures state that dex vi is low viscosity and suitable for mercon lv but my converter will still have some mercon lv in it and I don't want to cause anyproblems.

What does your owner's manual specify for the fluid?

Valvoline Maxlife is great. I'd happily use it in any LV application.

im sure it is but if I can use Dexron vi its about 20 bucks cheaper for the 3 gallons I need

$20 to protect a transmission seems to be good insurance to me.

Where is Dexron VI cheaper that $17 per gallon Maxlife LV?

Just use a good multi vehicle that specs Mercon LV. Maxlife and a pile of other brand name oils are either licenced or suitable for use. Mercon LV, like Dex 6, ATF+4 are not mystery unicorn based oils like most have you think.

thanks for all the info guys around me maxlife goes for 22 a gallon but looks like thats what ill be using I appreciate all the information.
