There appear to be two basic choices in Ford F450 and F550 trucks that I'm looking at. The 7.3 L is the most common, but right now I'm looking at a 6.0, 6 speed, 4x4 (2003).

What are your experiences with either of these engines

Take a look at diselstop.com. The 6.0's appear to have a LOT of problems, especially in the early years like you are looking at. In 2003 Ford brought out the 6.0 but still offered the 7.3. So it was the last year of the 7.3 which is a really good engine. If it was me I would go with the 7.3.

I agree, the 6.0 has too many problems for my taste.

The 7.3 is a strong engine and will run forever. The 6.0 did make good power but there is a good aftermarket for the 7.3 if you are looking for the power output.

Just discovered that "dieselstop.com" is a junk site full of pop-ups. "thedieselstop.com" is the good one.

I generally haven't heard good things about the 6.0, but my uncle has been using his to pull a 5th wheel for a few years and has had no problems. He hasn't modified or chipped it though. I'd go with the 7.3 if I had the option.

yeah thats the site I was talking about.

Do not go with a 2003-2004 6.0L. Tons and tons of problems. The 2005-2007 ended up being pretty good.

The 7.3L is a proven workhorse. Keep the oil system clean and you have an engine that will last forever.

The 99 model year was the pinnacle of reliability for the 7.3.
If you go with the 6.0 make sure you get two of them. One to poop on and the other to cover it up with.

Can you say Hino Power?
