2002 Subaru Outback H6 3.0.

This would be a boring report if not for the miles and the comparison to past reports. This is with Castrol Edge 5w30 in the gold bottle (20k mile oil formula). This is a 10,000 mile interval with a Napa Gold filter. The higher silicon could be from a valve cover gasket repair done mid way through the last oil change (same oil) about 15,000 miles ago. Not that it is alarming, but it is higher than normal.

this car sees a lot of highway use at 80mph at 3,000 rpm for 3 hours at a crack. And, i don't drive it easy.

I'm happy with my choice of oil and 10,000 interval change, and based on the results below, I don't plan to change my maintenance plan.

(in the list below, the second oil was actually M1 AFE 0w30. it is written wrong in the report.)

Yeah, that Si is most likely contributed to your repair work & should come back down next round. It does show a slight spike on Cu & Al this run though. I do see the low viscosity on the AFE which is nothing out of the ordinary with that product & is one way they get their fuel economy. Good little bit of history in this image. Let er keep ripping @3k for another 100k at least. :)

It’s going to spend 3 hours at 3k rpm tomorrow morning. And then again the next day on the way back.

I doubt I’ll do any more analysis on this vehicle. It will live as long as it lives and at this point I feel safe to say that I’m not neglecting it by doing a 10k OCI.

The trans will go before the engine and the body will go before the trans. I’ve maintained the mechanicals on this about as good as anyone, but the body is getting pretty rough. So far the subframes and structural components appear to be fine, but it’s at the end of its life as a vehicle. I’m figuring on 250-260k and then that might be about it.

Maybe one more set of tires for it then it won’t have much left to give.

You're speaking my language. run it, maintain it, & if something major happens (transmission) then let it go to the next buyer. Now, I've had transmissions rebuilt before but most of those were lower mileage auto's so it made more sense. 10k looks to be no problem for your use case. How much oil does it burn over 10k?

Castrol Edge 25k EP (Gold) is the only one I like from the BP House of PCMO oils. It's been missing from store shelves here in Southeast Michigan for almost one year now.

No added oil this OCI. Since fixing the cam covers and the oil cooler gasket it doesn’t leak enough to require any add oil mid cycle. There is a little bit of weeping out of the front timing cover gasket, but it’s not enough to leave a drip anywhere I can find when I park.

I check it every 1,000 miles just because that is what I do. But this is with no add oil.

I get mine from Amazon on a subscription. Three 5qt bottles every three months for about $88 shipped.

Can’t get it on the shelves here either anymore.

Thanks, That's excellent! Good deal.

IDK, that Al number is high; we usually report at 3ppm or under at these miles and well under 10ppm iron + aluminum
the OP meborder is over 20ppm Fe + Al.

But that is in the 4 cylinder - but also revving high on the highway with 5w20.
Maybe the gasket repair loosened up some sludge with entrained contaminants?

I would do the same. Could spend a little on a fluid film spray. Might get you a couple extra years and you can see 300,000. It's a good feeling
