5w20 or 5w30?

Lots of talk of the 5w20 oil verus the 5w30.

Have a car that calls for 5w20, never have felt that good using the 5w20. My owners manual does not even have a temp range, period.

So, I use 5w25. Yes you can spend days trying to find 5w25, however just blend the same oil with 2 qts of 5w20 and 2 quts of 5w30. This of course will give you 5w25. This is assuming the car takes 4 quts, etc.

No question here, but this may make a few feel better doing as I have done.

For my crv that called for 5w20, and this was a few years ago when 20 weights were 'relatively' new, I used amsoil's xlm. My justification was to use a quality syn if I was going to use a 20 weight. I'm not sure that has any merit today with the wealth of evidence confirming 20 weights are excellent oils in the right application!

It seems that some engines turn a 5w30 conventional into a thick 5w20 during an OCI so why not just use 5w20 and live happily? I think it has finally been shown that 5w20 is NOT the Devil's blood. It will not hurt your car if spec'd for it or you use it in place of 5w30. Only a used oil analysis will tell.

I'm not sure there's a huge fan base for mixing oils around here. Most people use what is recommended or what they prefer.

Can you explain why you wouldn't use 5W-20 again?

I have done that type of blending as well.

I had two quarts of Mobil 1 0w20 and two quarts of Mobil 1 0w30.

I poured the oils into my daughter's Toyota Yaris for a Mobil 1 0w25.

Overall....we weren't impressed and haven't done it since.

Silly, just plain silly. Whatever helps you sleep at night... 5w20 is just fine.
