I was looking at a new Fiat Freemont yesterday which is a rebadged Dodge Journey. It has 5w20 on the oil cap. My first thought was, where the [censored] do I buy 5w20? Well I see Nulon is making a 5w20. This would be the first retail brand I have seen in Australia to sell a 5w20. Are there any others?

It's also interesting to note Selenia fluids are recommended by the dealer. I assume it was the dealer that put the sticker under the bonnet and not the factory because as far as I know Selenia does not make a 20 grade with API approval. Their only 5w20 is a racing oil. So what are they using? 5w30, or more likley a Mopar 5w20. Is that misleading?

I would actually look in the owner's manual.

Remember that Dodge was built with the US in mind. I'm sure to save a few bucks FIAT decided to not change the printing on the oil fill cap although 5w-20 is suitable oil to meet US CAFE standards.

I bet that it offers a range of oils that will suit your needs perfectly.

My guess is that 5w30 a good choice and would be widely available and reasonably priced in Australia.

I can tell you that the manual for my '05 Dodge Neon, just says 5w20 for all climates and conditions.(the same car in '04 had 5w30 for most, with 10w30 ok'd as long as temps don't dip below like 20F)

and to the OP, Chrysler/Dodge, since the FIAT merger/buyout, have switched to Pennzoil products.( dunno if that brand is available down under, if not it's made by SOPUS (Shell Oil Products US),the US branch of Shell.)

Just a tidbit from US CAFE IMO...your vehicle should run as well or better on 5w30 or 10w30 for that matter. Surely your manual allows some other grades if 5w20 is not available? I'd think you'd have a pretty good argument for 5w20 not being readily available in Australia.

So Fiat is actually offering a badge-engineered Aussie version of the slow-selling Dodge Journey?
Ignore the oil cap.
What does the OM recommend?
Inquiring minds want to know, since there is a faction here who are very suspicious of the twenty grade recommendations made for the US market.

not just in australia... for example, there is a shell commercial that runs sometimes, This One:

the Bald Brazilian guy(going by the narrator)over seeing the soccer Football stadium, the scenes where he is driving, and pulling up to the shell station and fueling with ethanol, the car is a Fiat Freemont.

Dodge Journey - wikipedia

heck, it's not even made in the USA, made in Mexico, on same line as the US Spec FIAT 500.

Followed the link, did a general search for 5w20, comes up with Kendall GT-1 Full Syn 5W20, case of 12 Qts for $127.21, or $10.60/qt

now just for $#!+s & giggles, converting to US Dollars,
$133.58 - 12 Qt case($11.13/Qt)

and doing a US price comparison....
Amazon.com (04/13/2013 9pm)
$52.99 - 12qt case.($4.42/qt)
http://www.petroleumservicecompany.com/kendall-gt-1-fs-w-ti-5w-20.html
$47.92 - 12qt case.($3.99/qt)
