5w-40 or 15w-40

Well...this winter I am going with a 5w40 (Rotella T) for my old Mercedes diesel. Although I live in North Carolina and the winters don't get too bad here, I thought I try this weight for my first winter with a diesel. This summer I was using 15w40 Delvac.

I just love the home test labs.

I might add you won't find me outside in 10 degree weather trying to find out what oil pours better.

I know it's nothing scientific, but seeing that with my own eyes made me never want to put 15W-40 in my vehicles in winter. I'm sticking with 5W-40 year round.

The 5w40 I bought was nearly twice the cost of the Delvac. So I'll probably run 5w-40 in the winter and Delvac or comparable in the summer. I am looking forward though to looking at the new Shell Syn Blend, whenever it comes out. 10w30 and 10w40, both MB 228.31 approved!
