I have just changed oil on my Jeep Liberty KK and the garage guy told me that he used 5W-40 instead of 5W-20 or 5w30 that the user manual recommends
Is that ok or I need to go back and ask him to change the oil again
Please help

If he screwed up I'd make him change it. It is not an issue of whether or not 5W40 will work, he used the wrong oil, and you paid him to use the proper oil. If the OM calls for 5W20 or 5W30 then he should have used 5W20 or 5W30.

Welcome to BITOG

No reason to run 5w-40 in that 3.7L. take it back, have him put in the recommended vis.

Edit: Notice your engine will run perfectly fine, it won't hurt it one bit.

The problem is that he is a Chrysler approved mechanic and he says that this viscosity is ok for that car
If i want to change it i have to pay again

that is what gives bussiness's a bad name. If you requested 5w20 and he didn't use 5w20 then he is at fault, if you told him to put in what the manual called for and it says 5w20 he is at fault, if you just said you wanted a oil change the quicker the better undalay undalay then I guess your at fault but the first two he should have to pay.

If it were my car he'd be changing the oil, at his expense. If the OM and oil fill cap state 5W20 or 5W30 and doesn't mention 5W40 then he is FOS. The viscosity might be fine for the car, but if the fill cap and OM don't state it, he is wrong. Truth is it will work just fine, but that doesn't mean what the tech did was right.

First thanks for your time and help but unfortunately I went to the approved Chrysler garage in my area and i just asked them to change the engine oil (it was the first change) The same evening after i took the car back i decided to look what the manual says and i started to worry
So please tell me your honest opinion
Do i have go to the garage again and waste another day and another 90 euros or i can safely keep this oil

If you keep it, be sure it's documented. If it were me, if anything happens from now on it's because the dealership put the wrong oil in it.

So what are you saying is keep the oil and save the money
Am I wrong?
Thanks in advance

So is this a brand new vehicle with it's first oil change?

The new car dealer you bought it from?

If so I would maybe call Chrysler and see what they say about it.

I called Chrysler in the USA to ask about using 0W20 in my Jeep Liberty calling for 5W20. I actually called Chrysler Corp and not the dealership. I was told and I quote: "use only 5W20", 0w20 was not acceptable according to them, this was in Feb 2009 when I called.

If his Jeep says 5W20 on the fill cap, and is 2008 or newer Chrylser Corp will tell him to get the 5W40 out of the engine, unless Greece has different specs for that engine. I would not tell them the dealer installed it until after I asked the question, then I'd drop the bomb. This way they will answer honestly.
