I've searched the used oil analysis and it seems like a lot of the conventional 5w30's turn to 5w-20's in 3000-4000 miles. Would a high mileage oil such as Maxlife 5w30 have a better chance of staying in grade over the same mileage span?
Synthetics and grp III's have a naturally higher viscosity index. The higher VI the base oil contains the less shear prone VI improvers are needed to meet the grade.
There are more out there. The problem is different vehciles and conditions. Overall I think it holds it's viscosity well while the Maxlife syn is so shear stable it displays an Amsoil like characteristic.
Exactly With more used oil analysis in the future proof is on the way. Currently working on a 6 month run of undoped(no LC this time) Maxlife syn 5w30 to see where the viscosity ends up. And it's been HOT and ran hard.
