my dad has a 96 cavalier that has always had most of its life oil changed every 3 k miles with castrol gxt. Lately it has been ticking alot during start up and the sound went away kind of when the car warms up. We changed the oil once to valvoline and it had the same problem. My dad said change it to 10-30?? we did idk why but whatever and same thing and the car picks up alot slower with the 10 weight in it.
the car burns some oil and i hate it for that. Have to add about 1/2 a quart every 1k or so. I was thinking of putting in Penzoil conventional 5-30 for it and give it a try since so many people like it.

any thing i can do about the oil burning of?

Double ditto...dm who started this can't even spell his own occupation under his profile.

Personel? Now that's funny.

Bulli, try the auto-rx.

Some models use oil when the pcv is not functioning properly. When you check it, also check the pcv hose for obstructions or cracks.

Some models consume oil when the pcv is not functioning properly. Pcv is difficult to test so if it's more than 2 years old just get a new one. Also check the pcv hose for obstructions or cracks.

Some questions for the one who asked the question above, and for those who think the question is funny.

This maybe deep but here goes.

Do school you squeak of, is this the school for spelling ? Or is the school you speak of is the school that one expects to be self taught, the school of courtesy and respect for the feelings of others ?

Funny (the peculiar HA HA not the HA HA funny) how this school for courtesy and respect for the feeling of others needs to be legislated into law and punishable under the law for those that are negligent and cannot teach it to themselves ?

There are many schools of thought and even the fool that keeps silent is deemed intelligent.

Professional Lawyers had to be instructed to write in simple English so the even well educated people could understand documents prepared for them by Lawyers.

Good on you “Bulli” I’m glad you asked the question even if some if may require some time and clarification to pin point the question.

I have dealt with a few old farm trucks that like to run at a certain oil level. If it was above its preferred level, it would burn it off somehow and then stop when it got to the preferred level. You must check the oil everyday while doing this, but let the oil run low and see if it stops using at a particular level. If it drops below a quart low, that is obviously not acceptable. I have seen some stop using at half quart low. Others stopped right at one quart low. Proceed with a little caution of course, but if this is the case it could save you a little money and frustration.

Lighten up people, i mean come on. People are always cracking jokes and just trying to have a fun time while learning about oil and what not. Just cause I laughed at a comment someone made doesn't mean I was laughing at the original poster or that I am a bad person.
-If i see something that someone writes or hear something that I think is funny, guess what I am going to laugh.

Everybody has opinions and yes opinions do vary. If you disagree with something I say or write you have every right to speak out, like I siad everyone has opinions.
-I also have every right to say I could care less about what you think of me
