5-30 oil any good dino oil

I use penzoil 5W30 in my corolla and all seems fine. I am not too familiar with different motors and what not so I dont know how our two motors compare, it might do well in your's, it might not. If you want to give it a run and see how the car performs then go for it. I only have 4032 miles on my car and have not done a uoa on it as of yet but will probably do one at my next oil change. I am actually running 3 qrts pen 5w30 and 1.5qrts pen platinum 5w30.
-Bill in Utah likes gtx in his corolla and he always gets good numbers from his uoa's. He has said penzoil is a pretty good performer in "his" car. Try them and see.

Older Cavalier seem to burn more oil as they age. there is a recent UOA in the UOA section of a '96 Cavalier that went through about 1.75 quarts in 4k miles, and another member on here (Cutehumour) has an older Sunfire as well, and as I recall it uses about 1 quart in 2-3k miles on 5W-30. He now uses 15W-40 to slow that. So I don't think this engine using a bit of oil is a big deal. I myself drive a 2002 Cavalier, and at 100k miles, it uses about 1 quart every 6k miles, so its not 'up there' yet, but I'm expecting it will be in the next 30-40k miles.

Bulli, I think you will have to choose somewhere between a more sluggish engine that burns less oil using thicker oil and a less sluggish one that burns more oil with the oil you've been using. I'd try a High Mileage oil first and see what happens.
