I'm rebuilding a 03-4L80e I purchased on Marketplace. I dismantled as the fluid was a little dark and burnt. I found a TCI Low Gear Planetary Set 2.97 first /1.57 second and burned up direct clutches. I purchase parts to put this back to stock, namely direct and forward drum assemblies and a 99 and up sun gear. From the descriptions and illustrations in the ATSG Manual I thought to have a 97-98 Center Support with no recess for the .041 shim so ordered the correct 99 and up Center Support and part I received is the same as the one I had. I found a Transg
RG Document; 4L80E -97 and Later Models Lube Failure Prevention -Parts Change Reference, on page 6 it shows the Center Support washer surface to bearing surface dimensions for (97-98) .950" for (99) .900". I measured this on the two CS I have and readings I got were .918" and .910" much closer to the 99 and up specs. Neither of these CS have a .041 recess in them. Has anyone seen a CS with an actual recess in it for the .041 shim?
