My bad, it's a fine report. Nothing to see here. What was I thinking.. sorry..

Given he started from essentially new, drove 25K miles, it's ugly when viewed in a vacuum. But not terrible.

It would be nice to see another consecutive run with the same oil/mileage to establish a trend.

I did cut open the oil filter and the pleats, after cutting away from filter and squeezing out excess oil, were free of any large pieces of metal or free of any sludge, but the results are significant
Aluminum 12
Chromium 4
Iron 132
Copper 332
Lead 141
Tin 10
Moly 79
Potassium 7
Silicon 70
Sodium 45
Calcium 307
Magnesium 18
Phosphorus 614
boron 30
Zinc 782
cST Viscosity @100 14.5
TBN 2.76
OXIDATION 57
NITRATION 45

I think that Amsoil oil did a great job protecting your young engine. I wouldn't run the oil past 3000 miles when I purchase new vehicles, after that I follow religiously the owners manual. I also use Amsoil, but because of the warranty I follow the manufacturer recommendation. The results could have been better, if you went easy with Amsoil the first couple OCI 3k,10k, then 25k

Thanks for posting the results.

lazaro, thanks for posting these results, this has been one of the most interesting threads I've read here.

Looking forward to the second 25K report!

Agreed, thanks Lazaro!

I bet the next 25k run will look much better. As FZ1 said, it's not the oil... it held up well considering the circumstances.

No. If anything, on the contrary. Cu can protect hard metals and Al. This engine is well known to throw huge copper numbers.

Thanks Pablo. For some reason I seemed to remember that Blackstone recommended short OCI's to remove excess copper during engine break in. I went back and re-read my reports, and it's excessive silicon (from sand-casted parts etc.), NOT copper that they are worried about being overly abrasive.

True.. I don't think there's many oils that would of survived this experiment. I'd love to see another 25k run of the same oil. How long do we have to wait Lazaro?

The iron looks mighty high. I think a 5K oil change would have been wise on a new vehicle and 20K changes thereafter.

I have an LS1 and ran Amsoil 5w30 for 16K. It was pretty dark when it came out and there was a lot of iron on the drain plug magnet. Call me a wuss but I'm not comfortable going 20K or 25k on any oil.

My Chevy never did;

Dyson UOA Mobil 1

Pennzoil 10w-30

That was the last UOA I did with that truck since I sold it. I've done 2 UOAs on my Moms truck and its copper is low too.

We have seen 4.8l and 5.3l show low copper here.

But of course, its only a $20-$30 UOA (except Terry's)

I would have never done a 25k UOA on a fresh motor. just me....

I've posted other members UOAs that have low copper.(we have gone around with this subject before)

So there are more exceptions than mine.

And some of them were with syn and some with conventional.

Take care, Bill

What oil is in this truck now, and do you plan to run it 25k miles again? I really hope you have the same type of oil and you do plan to run it the same length.

yes I have done the change and will sample again at 10,000 miles

you how things are, these owners get all desperate, they wont sign up in advance and order the oil, they wait till the day they want the change and rely on you to have the oil. so I always have ASL on hand and thats what I had.
I didnt have a EAO50 when I did the change so I had to use a puroilater. he already ordered the EAO so we shall see what is in the cheap filter when I cut it open

a couple months? they drive the peeaisss out of it, they already have 1000 miles since the change a few weeks ago...

Cool, so in a few weeks it should be interesting to see how much wear drops. Will you be able to get a Tan # next time?

Bah, that engine will run to 100K at that rate. Can't say much for the life of the seals, later oil consumption or the varnish products but wear wise, that engine will make it to a decent lifespan with such treatment.
