I have a new craftsman leave blower I got this past christmas, the manual says use 40:1 fuel mix, is it ok too use 50:1 fuel mix.

I know I mix up gas for my husquvarna weed eater which is 50:1 and I just use that gas in all my other 2 stroke equipment regardless of what it calls for. I don't really put that many hours on anything, but I haven't had any problems yet.

I stick with the ratio the manufacturer says.

Use 40:1

Other than fouling the plug and producing more emissions, I don't think it hurts to use more oil in the fuel. 1 small bottle of Echo 2 stroke oil mixes with 1 gallon of fuel to give the recommended 50:1 ratio for my Echo trimmer and Husq chainsaw. I use 1 1/2 bottles.

Yep, use Stihl Ultra and just go 50:1. Commercial guys use Amsoil Saber at 100:1 and put more hours on in one month than most will use over a lifetime.

some of the newest trimmers have small catalytic converters in the exhaust. For one of these I would use the recommended mix. Anything else gets 40 to one.

+1 same here

I use 50:1 in my two cycle Stihl and Kawasaki engines. But if you use 50:1 and have an engine problem under warranty, Sears would use that to deny your claim. Food for thought.

Just my experience... the carbs are adjusted VERY particularly at the factory, and then sealed with a plug so you cant really adjust them as Joe average consumer. I have NEVER had a 40:1 Craftsman or similar, run correctly on 50:1 ratio gas. I doubt it will run right without you popping the plugs off and adjusting the carb.

If your stove manual states not to put your hands on the hot burner, would you question it?

Try 2% and if it runs badly, try 2.5% and see if it works better. Can't think it will be damaged by the 2%, so if it runs ok I would cut down on fuel variations and use 2% OR 2.5% depending on your other equipment. Use oil with high JASO or ISO standard and you will be happy

If that's the only 2 cycle unit you have just do the recommended 40:1 if you have, and use a lot of equipment calling for 50:1 ( which seems to be the norm now days) use a synthetic oil 50:1 like HerrStig suggested.
Some years ago I went to using 50:1 on all of my stuff including some older Blowers that called foe 32:1 without any issues at all.

40:1 - 50:1 is trivial... buy a quality oil and mix it according the directions on the label (label on oil bottle). Most newer FC/FD-rated oils will be 50:1. Amsoil Saber can be 100:1.

I have three different pieces of lawn equipment, all with different oil mix requirements.

LawnBoy mower = 32:1
Sears leaf blower = 32:1
WeedEater string trimmer = 40:1
Skil string trimmer = 50:1

My solution: I just run 40:1 modern (full synthetic) oil with 100% pure 89 octane gas and call it a day. Seems to work well. Plugs look fine, starts are easy and power output seems strong. I recently purchased a can of TruFuel 40:1 to give it a try this spring.
