I don't know where else to post this other than try here.
I'm thinking of getting a Banks 4in exhaust for my 06 250 6.0 PowerStroke to help improve fuel economy.
I sure don't need the power, but do like the idea of better breathing and better fuel economy.
Any suggestions out here on what you guys have boughten and used.
I changed to the AMSOIL Series 3000 5W30 at 6500km.
The truck has 11,000km now and it's still at the full mark.

Don:

I do not have first hand knowledge about this, but I have two very good friends with the PowerStroke that put the Banks exhaust on them. If you would like I can contact them this week and get their opinions.

I would like to know why you chose the Series 3000 5W30 over the tried and proven Amsoil 15W40.

Johnny

Thanks Johnny, I would like to talk to them.
I have run 15W40 till the Series 3000 5W30 came out.I use it in all our farm tractors and combine. I even use it in the small engines (Honda,Briggs) and it works great ALL year round. It does get hot & cold here ya know.

I put the Banks exhaust on my 6.0 2 1/2 years ago. I bought the cat back and then added the down pipe later. It seems to be holding up just fine.

Don--4" is the ideal sized for the PSD.
Some say...a 3.5" downpipe and the rest 4" is ideal.

also add a AIS Air induction system and a flash from Jody tipton..

And Your PSD will feel like a Beast.

You will find everything you want to know and more about the PSD.

I've had Banks kits on all my Fords and I love them. I've tried Magnaflow and a few others, still like the Banks. My favorite truck, 2001 7.3 has the 4" from the turbo back. The Banks kit made a notice difference in the seat of the pants and a small but consistent increase in mileage.

The best part of the Banks kit was the fit and finish. Performance wise any good 4" mandrel bent, constant diameter pipe should work about as well. However, the Banks kit slid right into place with no hassle, no trips to the store and no redesigning. It's also all stainless so it holds up to the weather and heat very well. I had 3 Banks kits right now and have had the same luck with each of them.

Like I said above, others may perform well but none match the fit, finish and install of the Banks (at least that I've found so far).

After reading about the variuos products and recomondations here, I found http://www.xtremediesel.com/
and order the Banks Monster Exhaust
Crew Cab - Short Bed

Part#: BP48785

(Qty: 1 x $628.20)

Sending it to my friend in Port Huron.
I talked to my local Ford dealer who, by the way is also my retail for AMSOIL, and they will install it for me and keep the old exhaust (11000km om it) if I trade the truck in.

Read all about the various problems. Looks like all the diesels have their share.
My dealer said not to worry about warranty.
As for the Banks....when I talked to Xtremediesel they said the Banks was the quieter of the 3 brands they carry.
I'm over 50......I ride a GL1800 Goldwing....I don't like noise anymore

I have a '05 6.0L PSD too. To date, I have not seen any dyno runs from any after market exhaust or intake maker that show an increase in hp AND torq for the 6.0. The only charts that I've studied that show an increase in both are ones that have more mods to the engine than just a larger intake/exhaust system.

Many after market systems increase hp, but the data I've seen, the low end torq will decrease with a larger pipe. Ford (International) did a good job on making the 6.0L a free flow system.

However, the makers of Aero-Turbine muffler claim to show a slight increase in HP and Torq for the 6.0L PSD with their muffler on the stock pipe. Some owners claim more MPG with it; others say no change in MPG, just louder.

Ford claims that a small window of back pressure is necessary for the 6.0L PSD to run proper. I you lower the exhaust temps too much, it will affect the engine in a neg way. One other item to think about too, Ford may not honor the warranty if mods have been done to the engine. In recent months, Ford is looking very close at any warranty work on the 6.0L PSD.

If possible, make a dyno run before any mods and then after each mod. It would be interesting to see how each mod affect the HP/Torq curve.

I don't want this to get carried away with no warranty issues, probelms with 6.0, etc. etc.

I'm installing the 4in to HOPEFULLY get better fuel economy. I don't need no more stinking power

Besides....it looks really cooooollllllll!!

Don:

Did you MPG increase with the Amsoil 5w30?

Everyone else:
Does anyone have a dyno run that show an increase in HP, Torq and MPG with a good aftermarket exhaust system?
