Well it finally happened. My sons water pump finally failed on his 91 Ranger with 350K. Yesterday we were going to haul a piece of furniture and he checked under the hood. He noticed the coolant was low. My first thought was head gasket failure, but then noticed a small amount of coolant coming from the WP. We pulled the radiator, installed a new pump and while at it replaced the fan clutch and belts. Still the valve covers have never been removed, and the engine is running great.

Your son has certainly gotten his money out of that truck.

My father's '95 E-150 w/ 163k still has original water pump, ps, and alternator.

Which motor does his Ranger have?
I know the 2.3 is durable but I'm not sure about the 3.0 and 4.0.

That's great. Now days it's difficult, with timing belts and front wheel drive to push the limit of a water pump's life. Pump gets replaced when belts do.

Got you money's worth out of that pump.

That's great Tig, seems like that truck just keeps on going and going. 350K out of original anything is pretty awesome, not to mention the part was 19 or so years old. I hope the truck gets many more miles.

Same situation with my grandparent's 97 4.6 f150 with 156k miles. Everything is original minus one set of tires and spark plugs (and oil of course lol). It's been an extremely reliable vehicle for the past 13 years.

My 2000 Ranger has the 3.0L Flex Fuel engine and 132K miles. Replaced the alternator at 112K and just put the second new battery in it, but the water pump is still good. I do flush the coolant every 4 years or so.

3.0 Vulcan V6.

The coolant has been replaced every 2 years, even with the 5 year stuff.

The clutch slave cyl has been replaced twice, but the front end parts are all original, as are the rear end bearings and gears. Never been apart. One PS pump, alternator, starter, and radiator which was just recently replaced. Valve covers have never been removed. The engine still uses a qt. of oil every 3500miles as it did when new. The engine still has no lifter noise on start when the engine is cold.

Another Ford success story! Those 3.0L engines aren't going to set any land speed records but they get the job done, and are extremely reliable engines!

3.0 Vulcan V6.

That's a good life of a WP on Vulcan. My dad's Taurus with the same engine has WP leaks at 78kMiles.

Yes it was. There was no sign of a problem on the inside of the pump or the housing it set in. No slim, very clean. Frankly the impeller looked new.

My '96 3.8L windstar still had the original water pump when I sold it at over 229K miles.
Regular coolant exchange might have helped.
Was not using or losing any coolant.

That's great life for a water pump.

I got 105k out of the one on my Jeep before it started leaking. Impeller still looked good though.
