3100 with the common lifter tick

Thanks. I might just tear it down and replace them and do the intake manifold gaskets while it's apart.
 
Hopefully not! If I do, a junkyard 3100 or 3400 would not be hard to find. Put my intake gaskets and new lifters in that while it's out of the car and I would be good to go.

I prefer tranny fluid to gas but everyone has there 'fixes'.

The last time I researched this problem, the lifters were really going bad because the camshaft bores were not true ( I seem to remember that the blocks could have been cast in China ??) The camshaft will rotate the bearing slightly, making the oil hole in the bearing not align properly with the hole in the camshaft bore.
