I'm looking for brand and model recommendations for a 3 or 4 ton floor jack. Any input is appreciated. I'm looking for a unit that I will not have to replace for a long time.

Good luck. Every one I get seems to last about 5 years and the hydraulics clap out.

Nope. Can't find a good one anymore. Unless you go commercial grade which is super high $$$. Most all of them are made in china now.

I have that arcan jack that is noted above. I love the jack. Although I bought mine from Costco for $100, it's red in color and had a rubber pad in the cup.

Have it for about 3 years already. Weekend mechanic. No problems so far.

I know a guy who uses it professionally as a mechanic. He says it leaks down a little occasionally. But that is with daily use over 2-3 years.

Not sure if you have other floor jacks. I have a 1 1/2 ton Craftsman that must be 20 years old. I recently added some jack oil, first time. I use that jack the majority of the time.

I would not have only a 3 ton floor jack. Just too darn heavy to push around for work on cars and pickups.

My 3 ton jack is only for my Bobcat.

Another vote for the Arcan jack. I've owned mine for 3 or 4 years, and its done everything I've asked with no issues. I liked that it worked well for low profile vehicles but also had a high lift since I own a 4x4 truck.

I think I'm leaning towards the Arcan.

BTW: did you attend the Univ. of Minnesota-TC? I'm a Golden Gopher myself. I'm asking because of your profile name.

I have a Larin "GJ-6000" 3-ton and it just quit working recently after a few years of home use. Added some fluid and we're back in business.

I would AVOID the Larin. The Arcan above looks like a winner to me.

the heavy steel jacks at hf hold up well.

the cheapo-alum ones are not so good.

If you are going to buy a chinese jack might as well look at those to. They have low profile available too.
as well as threaded Jack Pad.

I had the older version of
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-heavy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-68048-7788.html

before they started calling everything "rapid pump"

Its held up well. It gets abit of work with rotating tires on the 4car fleet, other maintence, and work on the jd tractors.

I've heard Hein-Werner are the best. Made in USA by a Taiwanese company. Their Taiwanese line is supposed to be pretty good too.

I have a 3 ton Urrea. It is much bigger than your average 3 ton. The ram looks to be 10 ton rated, the jack is nearly 4 feet long not including the handle. It works great. It was made in Spain, looks to be mostly hand made. It was over $500 though.

I can't speak for it's longevity, but I had the 3 ton harbor freight one.

It was able to lift the rear end of my 1 ton chassis class b motorhome several times which has heavy as heck. It gave it a run for it's money, but it worked awesome. I'd venture to say the rear end of the motorhome is probably 2 to 2-1/2 tons. It's a heavy sucker for sure.

I also used it on the front end of the motorhome for rebuilding it. I sold it for most of what I paid for it when I was done with it.
